Corrupt Dictatorship

Postby Blakullar » Fri Nov 04, 2016 2:47 pm

We tried to do the whole Mary Sue utopia thing, and we got pretty far with it. Unfortunately, we fucked it up to the point that now even the tiniest bit of upheaval will cause a biblically-proportioned socio-political meltdown.

We nuke any attempts at a marysuetopia

Adulia spent years claiming they were ruled by an AI, while trying to get investments so they could actually build one. The scheme failed when it was exposed by a ČOZANS agent.

Demonstrations are often met with counter-protests, which then falls into the inevitable street brawl. Some claim that the 'counter-protestors' are actually highly trained government death squads intended on removing obstruction of traffic demonstrations cause. (ah fuck I think mekhrus has this covered too whatever)

Their Factbook wrote:WW2 ended more than 50 years ago, but the Allied nations are still considered enemies of the PUS, especially the UK and US. So the English language is hated here, and all Anglo-American culture is banned.

We exist.

No, but really: We also embrace diversity, to the point where our accepted culture is a seamless fusion of British and Japanese, with a bit of French in our linguistic roots. Unlike in the PUS, we also don't enforce such strict integration policies, so any given roll call is likely to contain names from all corners of the globe.

The politics of London are very complicated and the best way to describe our government is an anarchical-constitutional-corporatical-monarchy.
The Unitied Kingdoms of Britannia in the Fallen London and Sunless Sea universe.
According to F7, our medics without guns are more terrifying than the dreadnoughts, drake mages, rage mummies that feel no pain, or the griffin snipers. Plague doctors get no love.
The Fallen in our name does not refer to the fall of the British Empire, it refers to London falling a mile down into the Earth into a world where people naturally come back to life, talking rats and cats, have Hell as neighbors, many deadly zee monsters, and more.

Our leaders quite openly talk of the underhanded or less-than-legitimate means they used to gain power. The more clever and resourceful they're revealed to be, the more support they'll typically see from the greater public.

After all, it's how Hightower toppled the United States government and came to power.

"All in moderation" is the Vistoran approach to government subterfuge. Being intensely secretive aside, surreptitious activities are rare, yet incredibly portentous. Petty graft is nearly nonexistent. Globe-spanning, centuries-old conspiracies less so.

Considering the fact that the citizenry are the constituents of many local, regional, planetary, and sectorial governments, localized government projects aren't always secretive.

Unless it deals with the Nexumian Imperial Grand Forces.

The fact that some individual Synkomese states have cultures that, for whatever reason, have led to misconceptions about Synkomese people as a whole (which is in fact impossible) has led to disclaimers on any site posting interesting facts about these states that "the facts presented are specific to [country name] only".

Fried rice is extremely common in Akiramori for reasons that aren't entirely clear. It was almost unheard of 50 years ago.

The most common form of meat comes from farming a large, flightless bird similar to the emu.

Akiranese culture is highly competitive across every major field of endeavor. The newsex are locked in an endless battle for status and hierarchy.

The newsex judge each other on everything men and women judge each other on simultaneously. "Sexual objectification" and "male disposability" both apply to everyone.

The culture is considered a cognitohazard by several countries. Only the fact that the legislature is run by think-tanks that bet on the outcomes of their legislation can keep up with the new and exciting social problems it continuously generates.

Pronouns often depend on language, as we are a multilingual society. In some languages, like German, she and they are the same. "sie" can either be she and they.
