(i use paint.net, but im the biggest noob and would rather not mess with layers whenever i can)

(It is not difficult. This should show you how I do it:




The outlining on a second layer in a colour that really contrasts with the colours below. Once you have your outlines you can change it to black using the brightness/contrast tool under adjustments; setting brightness to as low as possible and contrast as high.)
