Cristobal Araullo stood up. "Good day, fellow colleagues. I want it to be known that this bill will just scratch the surface in regards to my hope for a Calaverde that is involved in the international community. Of course, we must join the United Nations if we wish to be more involved; I also took the liberty of suggesting certain regional and humanitarian organizations we should be a part of. Are there any thoughts on this?"

I would like to endorse this bill. It is important for Calaverde to be open to the world and vice versa. Economic and political cooperation in Latin America and around the world is vital to the continued stability and progress of our great nation.

Senator Araullo, has there been any mention of joining CAFTA or other American trade agreement? Regardless I will support any measure to further involve Calaverde in the international community willbe met with support from myself as well as possibly members of my party.

The Prime Minister rose in his chair.

"This bill is incredibly important to our nation. It is another step towards joining the community of democratic nations, something I'm sure we are all dedicated towards doing. All of these organisations, the UN, the WHO, the Red Cross, Interpol, etc. are all near-universally respected organisations and it was an obvious decision for our government to apply to join them.

I hope that the honorable members will consider voting through this vital act."

Thank you Mr. Speaker

Members, I don't see why we can't introduce an amendment to join those language organizations and get this done today. I would be willing to support or even propose such an amendment, so long as we have the blessing of the Minister of Culture and the Government.

I am no expert, but I am fairly sure that there is a fair bit of controversy about CAFTA on the left. Any attempt to add it to the bill might decrease its chances of passing. Regardless, I think that joining agreements and organizations that mainly deal with trade ought to have their own bill.
