Why are we suddenly in the rush for a new flag? I can see where we need a coat of arms and a motto, but we definitely don't need a new flag. The flag we voted on OOCly was determined by the rpers to be the flag of the Republic, and that's what it ICly stood for (a new flag for the new Republic).

Nth Amendment to the Government Establishment Act

This assembled chamber,

Whereas the Republic of Calaverde is a sovereign and free state governed by the fair and equal rule of law,

Whereas the rule of law recognises a fundamental set of rights by implied definition,

Whereas one of the hallmarks of a nation under the fair rule of law is the independence of the judiciary from political maneuverings, as the court system must be independent and unmolested,

Whereas state pardons, given arbitrarily without any needed justification by a member of the executive branch, flies in the face of the concepts of fair rule of law and separation of powers,

Hereby resolves to abrogate Chapter I, Part I, Section 2, Subsection e of the Government Establishment Act, reading "The president shall have unfettered right to grant pardon to any individual convicted of any crime with sole exception of impeachment proceedings. Such decision to grant pardon shall not be subject to question or reversal by any judicial or quasi-judicial body except during impeachment proceedings - ho [sic]."

A presidential pardon is equivalent to a majority of the citizens in the nation pardoning someone, albeit indirectly. No need to abridge a right that nearly every developed nation in the world grants its Head of State.
