"Foreign military forces seeking to intrude upon U.S. sovereign territory without permission will be shot down, sunk, or otherwise destroyed as appropriate. As such intrusion is an act of war, the hostile state behind this action will then have some fast talking to do if they wish to avoid a response."

-- Secretary of State Amaya Tagliaferro.

"Bereia does have Progressives, just as the Empire has democracy advocates. As in that case, they are an extremely small minority, and overall sociopolitical trends means you won't likely see them in the political mainstream of society. As the Progressive imagines his to be the only logical ideology, this results in no small amount of distress."

-- Representative Jennifer H. C. Brunel.

"If the neighbor boy breaks your window with a baseball, it is not up to you to drag him into your house and give him a spanking. We can discipline our own children, thanks. If they've done anything to offend you, we assure you they will be punished, and we'll even foot the bill for damages, but it's upon us to decide the sentence. Not you. I don't care if they shoplifted a candy bar or murdered and raped (in that order, mind) an entire preschool. You're not going to put Frenkish nationals in front of a kangaroo court and hang them the next day just so you can fuel your daily dose of 'offending the international community' or whatever it is you people get off to. We'll be more than happy to consult and work with local authorities in matters of justice when it involves our nationals, but they will not rot in your jails or hang in your gallows. When things go that route...we tend to respond with missiles and Spec Ops."

-Franklin Donnelly, Frenkish Ambassador to the Republic of Antarctica, following the sentencing of seven Frenkish citizens to death for supposed drug smuggling in the Southern Ocean, c. 2110. Although the Empire was too late to save them, the Embassy was closed and all major Antarctic ports were blockaded, their ships torpedoed wherever they popped up. Unrestricted naval warfare would only be broken by Ardavia's conquest of the region many years later.

"Well of course we'll persecute foreign nationals who do not follow our laws when upon our soil, and we'll do it right here. You can't trust foreign courts to do it properly; they're bound to make some kind of political statement out of it. And in the same vein we shall not allow Auroyan nationals to be 'brought to justice' overseas. Foreign courts are bound to make some sort of stupid political message out of that, too, and we can't have that; it could be an insult upon national pride if a weaker nation was to get its way in regard."

"The whole of ECCO (Earth Coincidence Control Office) has came up with describing protocol on what information to hand down to potential inter-universe ambassadors who may go to that particular place...seeing as how most of them end up mauled. This cartel of mediocrity has waged a campaign of pugnacious intimidation against the agents of progress, reason and genius throughout the world under a cowardly phantasmagoria of sanctimony called 'international law'. A derisive concept I have already refuted numerous times. This is not a court, it is an apparatus of political terror, its morality is a phantom ethics of hatred and stupidity. I do not nor am I obligated to recognise its foul diktats, you will see justice for this justice. We do not abandon our own."

"If a Citizen is arrested in a foreign state, we do one of two things. In the event we believe the local justice system to be legitimate and fair, we send a State Department lawyer who is versed in both local laws, and the culture of the nation in question. On the other hand, if we believe it to be corrupt, inhumane, or simply engaged in a game of gotcha', we send warships."

"We're not hypocrites on this matter. If a foreign national breaks our laws, we'll gladly send them back to wherever they came from along with a Justiciar's consultation and a bill for all damages to state and/or private property. Smuggling or thievery isn't worth all the international outcry."

"Of course, when someone we really don't trust is scheduled to return home...there's almost always someone with a handgun or knife standing off to the side on the prisoner's walk to the hoverplane. Perhaps their victim's loved one or a paranoid associate who fears they will rat. It matters not. The prisoner always ends up dead and the person who did it is supposedly shot down by the Enforcers on duty. The prisoner's corpse is sent back home and our own corpse is taken away to be...vaporized. It is a strange coincidence indeed..."

"Exo-Law and Exo-Politics are the attempt to create basic concepts between alien psyches for the service of mutual survival, and if things were to deteriorate; the protocol that would guide wars based on losses and scales and property rights. The futurologists rightly predicted that any interstellar organism would be akin to a very loose confederation with client states owned by actually 'equal' members but that's really the easiest thing to describe using vulgar terms."

"Oh yeah, Imperial Japan lives on in some way or another. The Military Bureaucrats/Faction is insistent that any battle with a technological equal needs a decisive Naval engagement...or in this case, a decisive space battle. With ships. Lots of them with lasers. Luckily, we're not stupid enough to have a seaworthy design in space. Generally they're-um-giant prisms with a 360° view, or simple shapes bristled with 'porcupine'-like angles for lasers rendering the same result. That and there's the fact every able citizen could be a potential warrior and kamikaze but they don't like talking about that.

They are however insistent that any space battle wouldn't be like a Pacific War style mass dogfight and bomber runs and more like an instant gunslinger duel in the Old West due to the vastness and the need for particle-based weaponry. Yippie ki-yay. "

"Mr. Ambassador, let me be frank. Diplomatic pressure will not work, and neither will economic sanctions. We will simply brush off the condemnations and trade with other sources. The only way left to you is the use of naked force. In short, you must commit an act of war, to which we will react, or accept that your national, who committed a crime here, will be tried for it here, and if he is legally convicted, he will be punished for it here. Think carefully when choosing your next sentence."

"In the Local area, the Kids accept two equals. The Blues and the Gascows, yes...they come up with the names. As mentioned elsewhere, the lack of competition derives from different biological needs, coupled with a lack of clear psychological bases when the Gascow or Gascows are mentioned. Though Fermi failed to predict some things about encryption and bunched-up communication within Background Radiation through scattering, the Mediocrity Principle itself resulted optimistic for many but near-barren through the eyes of a Star Wars fan or a Trekkie. Exotic chemistry does give potential in many areas not just Earth-like but the current situation itself is against revised odds and evolution to favor overtaking the 'cultural' line is questionable...as the Gascows could be a genus loci in a Gas Giant, capable of creating complex tools but seemingly void of 'culture' and near hermit-like. The LIN Frogs/Blues are the only people to talk to as equals."

"Blackwing Coast does not truly have a citizen status - you are a resident. And if one of our residents is caught commiting a crime on foreign soil - up to and including mercenary activity for other residents of Blackwing Coast - that is their problem and not ours. The only exception are residents working for the Inquisition, or Hir God-Empress Shinra directly. In both cases said resident has sworn a good dozen blood oaths - some as many as five dozen - each of which will kill them if broken. One of the things their first oath prohibits is being caught alive. So unless the power arresting them has means of blocking innate magic - for the oath runs as deep as the blood itself - or access to skillful necromancers, there will be nothing left to interrogate. And given how many freelancers take this oath to avoid torture and execution if caught on foreign soil, it is not even a strong indicator for the Inquisition - I'd say the ods he is one of ours is one in five." - Inquisitor Valus Toth

In the event we believe the local justice system to be legitimate and fair, we send a State Department lawyer who is versed in both local laws, and the culture of the nation in question. On the other hand, if we believe it to be corrupt, inhumane, or simply engaged in a game of gotcha', we send warships."

"If a foreigner is arrested on our soil, they go into a fucking Gulag. On a side note, we would like to inform you that the Aerofleet has a penchant for using surface-based warships as target practice."
