"The will of the people is a myth purported by career politicians to make themselves feel better about having only a popularity contest to justify their power."

---Premier Lithastir Mythurin.

"The Judeo-Christian moral apparatus (which is also the Secular Humanist moral apparatus and the Socialist moral apparatus) is fundamentally built upon fear, "do unto others as you would be done by": help me because you might possibly be in my situation in the future. It can't even claim to be truly altruistic."

---Marshall Eloith Huleeja.

"Libertarianism is separated from Modern Liberalism by a distance merely chronological. Both fervently defend the dogmas of the human as a guaranteed subject with quantity thus the only determinator of right, both share a fanaticism for 'natural rights' and 'rule of law', ...both of which are entrusted to a state apparatus to be enforced, modern Progressivism has merely taken this dangerous doctrine of entitlement and collectivism to its logical conclusions by extending the entitlement to material rather than ideal equality."

"The Monarch derives his authority from "God", the Democrats of today do so from "Universal Human Rights". Both are baseless, irrational, indefensible concepts conjured up by human will, and as far as I'm concerned those who derive their authority from either are equally illegitimate."

"The Legion is not defeated. Victory is simply delayed."
--Legate Faustus Caerellius, speaking to a captured enemy after the Third Battle of Pelerius Mons, 2300 AD. The first and second battles had ended in the Roman legion retreating, in large part due to the numerical superiority of the defenders and the poor decisions of some officers, who expected their enemy to use tactics similar to those of tribal barbarians. At the Third Battle, however, the arrival of fresh troops and the Legate from Aquilonia led to a swift defeat of the city.

"You know, if you'd wanted to threaten me, you ought to have chosen a better place than my personal office. Preferably one where I don't have a panic button within my reach."

"I didn't come here to threaten you, Fesh."

"What, to kill me, then? Killing me will only usher in someone worse." the Regent scoffed.

"There is none worse."

Fesh let out a snort of derision. "Oh please, Rumatis, don't pretend to be one of those idiots that mask their own shortcomings behind a cowl of righteousness. There are many people out there by far worse than me. Religious zealots, for instance. Or the polar opposite, those Vidireans."

"You're bad enough."

"Pah. It's not me you hate, Rumatis. You don't even hate that which I stand for. You're no monarchist, no more than any sane man today is. After all, does anyone seriously think that leaving the governance of state up to the spin of a die each time an Emperor dies is a good idea? We've had good Emperors like the late Veztazon II, and like his namesake Veztazon the First of His Name. But we've also got dealt a hand of buffoons like Veztazon II's brother Illifer, cruel parasites like Zikhmerius IV, plain madmen like Atikan XII and the soul of avarice, Valerian VII."

Rumatis was silent.

"No, Rumatis," the Lord Regent continued, "you hate the fact that I came this far. That I toppled an aeons-old institution, the Sathrus Dynasty, one that many, your forebears included, have tried and failed to overthrow. You hate my success." The Regent rose. "Jealousy is a bitter vintage I've tasted many times, Rumatis. As is disappointment in oneself."

A conversation between Lord Regent Ocillus Fesh and Margrave Don Rumatis, the Lord Commander of His Imperial Majesty's Palace Guard. Set in an alternate universe, where Ocillus Fesh seizes power following Emperor Veztazon II's death.

... I can't tell if I should be happy or saddened that Gorgashia's thing is that we clearly accessed the cheat codes when we decided to be Socialist. :p @ The Foreign Relations Things

"It is fascinating how the culture of the Mountain-Gorgashi can look so modern, but be steeped in so much tradition and ancient memory. I don't say this as a critique or appraisal, but simply as an observation. For example, they were and are incredibly flexible on gender roles, although roles boys and girls expected to fill in are present, exceptions could be given without much controversy or debate. The tribes of the Mountain-Gorgashi have a very egalitarian structure with no specific positions of inherent authority. On the other hand, the Mountain-Gorgashi have a very old attitude in regards to those incapable of helping themselves. Literally, anyone in the tribe who can't get a job or serve the tribe in any shape anymore, as in, anyone who's retired or enfeeble, usually both, are encouraged to leave the tribe and go kill themselves somewhere on their ancestral mountain. I repeat, the Mountain-Gorgashi still practise ritual suicide or exile, as they consider it, but the odds of an old man who has worked for his tribe until he can't work anymore surviving in the wilderness isn't exactly high. The same even applies to their proving rituals to adulthood, where a young Gorgashi must prove themselves capable of scaling down a mountain, getting through the forests, foraging through the plains to find and kill a buffalo, drain it's blood, take that blood back up the mountain, dig a little whole into said mountain, place a little stone totem that they carved themselves into the hole, then pouring the blood while reciting ancient rites of worship to the mountain. Depending on the tribe, this is what a Mountain-Gorgashi calls their sixteenth to twentieth birthday. That's also the time limit, if they start at sixteen, to re-try the proving ritual if they fail, otherwise they're cast out from the tribe and that's basically a death sentence in Gorgashia. Modern technology has helped improve the success rates in recent years, at least they don't frown upon pragmatism, these kids now have compasses and maps to guide them and rifles to shoot the buffalo with, but the theme remains the same. You better earn your damn place in the tribe to reap the benefits of being in it. It's like Communism written by Ayn Rand, there's all this collectivist sentiment mixed with a deification of self-reliance, the adults in a tribe all hold roughly equal status, some goes for municipalities with a dominant Mountain-Gorgashi population, but they only hold it so long as they're capable of getting a job or providing for the tribe in some other way. Otherwise, you can just go screw off and die in the mountains like all your ancestors did, I mean, some live as hermits at the mountain peaks until their aged bones and muscles give in, but most of them just sit whispering prayers to the mountain until they croak. It's even stranger when you look at them from a demographic perspective. The Mountain-Gorgashi reek of old values and worship of old ways and ancestors, but there's not a lot of old people in the tribes because of the, well, ritualistic suicide I just mentioned. Now, it all makes sense historically, the Mountain-Gorgashi started as heretical refugees from the plains spurned by the Shamans and Chieftains of their tribes, so they did away with such positions among themselves and had to weed out the weak while working as a group to survive the radically new environs of the mountains. However, this siege mentality has not been lost, even though the Mountain-Gorgashi and Plains-Gorgashi haven't been at war for centuries, although there are tensions here and there, many of their ways and methods from those trying times have not been cast aside. Some could argue that it's because these values were ingrained so strongly in those desperate times that the current peace of the modern days can't wash it out. It could also be raised that the traditions remain because they have continued to work so far, the Mountain-Gorgashi have not declined yet and surely lifestyles that could endure times of blood and struggle should flourish and prosper in times of peace and prosperity. Regardless, it was painted an image of contrasts, black and white, on the cultural tableau of Gorgashia; where collectivism meets self-reliance, the young enforce old rites and ways of war survive in times of peace."

- Jacques Robespierre, Gorgashian Historian. In 'Gorgashians: The People of Mountains, Plains, Rivers and Coasts.'

"If we were anthropomorphic animals, what would we be? We never asked for gold because we were always tied up to 'loyalty' and did our job best regardless. History has proven time and time again that we've seldom disobeyed direct orders...at least in battle. But we didn't do battle to live, it seemed that we lived for it. Hand picked for it among all of Spain's colonial forces. I'd say dogs. Blindly loyal unless underfed, ideologically trained, and happy to fulfill a 'good job'. Not really winning is necessary all the time, a decent-enough body count is though."

"Historically, the last big war in which Las Palmeras had significant activity in was in was it's 1898 rebellion, 'regular' action was spent being fodder for the Americans, the only real big 'regular' thing around was in the late 18th Century facing Portuguese colonial forces. It could be said though, that 'irregular' actions were always our thing. The indigenous did it for a few decades, we did it in our failed uprising, and in our Independence, then the Communist Revolution and finally even 'aiding' in Angola, the Congo and what was Rhodesia, and even volunteered in secret in Vietnam....But that's not it; we've also been on the other side of the 'COIN' in Central America, and México, and the Philippines...and even against our own throughout the 1820s and 1830s all under the flag of Spain.

"The insurgent is a pest in the house of a nation; the nation's defenses are made up of men in uniforms. Enormously obvious, loud, slow, unable to fit inside furniture and cracks, the nooks and crannies who constantly need attention to direct properly to do the slightest of things. The best way to kill a rodent is getting a small and semi-hungry cat. The cat is faster than a man, it can fit into small and dark places, it can sniff out rodents...and it's almost independent. It has a purpose but it's not fully capable of receiving orders, but only a supportive base is needed; a minimal ounce of authority the homeowner has in assuring the servants the cat is a needed annoyance to rid an unnecessary infestation."
