You're avoiding carbs, Lordi?

I'm trying a lower carb diet to see if it accelerates my progress. I was having a small/moderate amount and a carb refeed day twice a week, but I've reached the stage where I need a carb refeed once a week. So I'm trying less carbs during the week, but then one big carb refeed day on Saturdays.

The hunger pangs are just crazy.

I don't really have a roadmap, but I'm probably 70% through this particular phase. Once I'm finished I'll be quite lean, and that should mean I'll be able to put on a good amount of muscle when I go into my next bulking phase.

Yes, but I'm not sure if I've got the balance right. The whole point of lowering carbs is to decrease insulin, which lowers fat storage and increases human growth hormone, which helps in gaining lean tissue. Conversely, if you you're feeling hungry, you produce more ghrelin, which signals the body that you're hungry, and increases the storage of fat.

It's paradoxical. The body wants to be in homoeostasis, so if you push it too far one way or the other, it just rebels on you. I'm hoping my body just needs time to adapt to low-carb. The hunger only comes at night though. I think I might need to increase my fat intake in my evening meals. I feel so hungry.

An extremely well-qualified nutritionist, but they couldn't tell me anything I don't already know. It's just really difficult to tell in the short term if the changes you've made are an overall benefit or not.

That's just waay too much stuff to be organizing and doing for me. I can't handle that, my personality can't handle that. I'd rather just go to the gym or play a sport (like I do) and let my body take the shape it wants to take :P

Well, all I can say is I believe in you and if you don't see the changes you're searching for in a few weeks, it's time to change what you're doing, I guess. Is there anything carb-less you can eat to stave off the hunger pangs?

Thanks, Nana. Well, I've just had a generous tablespoon of peanut butter. I'm hoping that'll stave off the pangs. I get to eat in an hour. I think I need to tweak my evening meal. It just needs to keep me satiated for an hour longer than it does.

30g of wholewheat pasta, and then as many collard greens (broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage) as I can fit into the saucepan.

After doing a little digging, it appears that ghrelin increases when leptin decreases. Leptin is directly linked to carb intake. Perhaps I've lowered my intake too much. I was doing fine before, I just wanted to see if I could accelerate the process. I might switch back to extra carbs midday.

Why not try natural hunger/appetite suppressant foods? What about almonds, ginger, avocado, apples, potatoes, or even dark chocolate?

Apples and potatoes are out. Ginger I could add to my shakes. Avocado is a good option. Dark chocolate might be too high in sugar. I'll have to check.

IS adding turkey, chicken or fish permissible in this diet? Adding those may help with the hunger.

Only during this phase of training. Once I'm back to bulking, I can be a lot more liberal in what I eat.
