Why not use both?

Have a points system, then have a class system that grants a boost to certain areas in certain situations.

It gets too wanky too fast in my opinion

I remember seeing that once. It looked pretty neat. Depending on which class you picked, you had different ammounts of points to spend in certain areas.

I don't get why so many people like either. To me, they're a gamey restriction RPs don't need.

How so?

A little different from what I was thinking, but similar enough.

I can honestly see that, but I can also see where one, the other, or both might be desirable.

How so?

Too many numbers to keep track off, a lot of "he said, she said", more then enough messing with pluses and minuses.

Also, math.

Yuck

I believe you're thinking of systems way more complicated than what people seem to use in RPs here.

You wanna be a pilot, and yet you're complaining about math? :P

Yep. I know I need to know it, but that doesn't mean I need to like it!

Lol, no. No one does anything nearly as complicated as D&D. Most poeple use, like, 5 parameters or so, and there's no dice rolls involved, you just get tossed a set ammount of points and get to distribute them however you want.

Well, I suppose it's not unthinkable for someone to use a complicated system here. I personally haven't seen it, in any case, but it could happen.

It's not what I was thinking of when I started talking about point systems here though. I'll also admit I can't speak for anyone else.

I personally just use a random number generator and tag the fraction to percentage chance. It's very simplistic and admittedly flawed, but it worked to comedic effect in my old alien invasion RP.

That was a fun one. I regret I never had the time to join it.

So I watched the LastStandGamers survival series and I got this.

RP INTEREST AND FEEDBACK REQUEST
Please provide as much detail as possible.
RP's Overarching Concept: Kind of a Space Pirate RP, with rednecks.
Genre/s: Space Opera, Comedy (Probably)
Character or Faction Based: Character.
Detailed Description: Welcome to 2230, in a little bunch of planets known as the Orion Arm ruled by the United Nations Interstellar Council.

Well, ruled is the case of the Inner Systems. The Middle Rim and Outer Rim....not so much.

Mega-Corporations,Pirate gangs, Small-declared nations and warlords, some of the religious maniac type, the issue is so huge and generally sucky that the UNA (United Nations Army) and UNSN (United Nations Space Navy) have created an entire special forces branch dedicated to fast-response and winning wars quick, the Mobile Troopers, stopped calling them wars for public relation reasons, stationed a sizable garrison in most major cities, made the police basically a military with a smaller budget. The UNIC themselves reformed the Office of Intelligence (OI) into a secret police and are rumored to make a super police on steroids, Section 8.

And that did nothing to quell the tide of angry people. Angry over the following things.

-Prominent politicians rumored to be or 'admitted' pedophiles.

-Prominent politicians getting away with saying bigoted things about various religions (Such as evil Muslims, banker Jews or pedophile Catholics)

-Various civil rights issues that have not be addressed.

-Murders getting away with some hideous crimes.

-Death Cults.

-Meaningless wars for both religious or monetary gain.

-Aberium, a extremely rare resource that is said to be one of the safest and most reliable power sources, begin rare (Of course this is more some of the theorist, as studies show Aberium is nigh impossible to recreate with modern technology)

-Hitmen, sometimes referring to OI agents but mostly mercenaries used by military generals or politicians to silence people.

-The Somme Sector Crisis, in which two religious groups, Hindu's and Muslims (Sorry Nightkill) along with various others killing eachother. Mostly the fact that the UNM (United Nations Military) has done little to stop it and the Governor of the sector is busy hiring hookers.

-Crime rate, mostly in the outer rim of space.

-Warlords.

-Mega-Corporations going to war with people.

-"Yellow Press"

-Imperialism.

-In some, more backwards, sectors gay rights have gone back to the stone age. Through homosexuality is legal in the UNIC, most say they do nothing to enforce hate crimes.

-Incompetent Government agencies.

-Mental Illnesses still begin a thing.

-Hate speech and various others.

-Political corruption.

Oh and something more recent. The UNSN "Garden of Eden". Calmed to be nothing but a massive exploration vessel critics point to the Garden of Eden having a massive array of armament, along with four Wrath Cannons (MAC Cannons in function) and begin big enough to hold an sizable invasion force. They also point to the fact the instead of dealing with the outer rims and stopping it from spilling into the middle rim, they built a massive expensive ship for no other reason than to say they have a massive expensive ship.

Along with the fact that strange things have been happening in the Outer Rims. Something the UNIC doesn't want anyone to know about.

But that doesn't matter. As we are not politicians or military generals or even political activist. But a merry band of guys with a few ships of various size, guns and a lot of ammo. Along with legal trading goods and illegal goods. Of course since the UNIC is too busy trying to contain everything and the fact that the Section 9 officers that come are generally poorly payed. Nothing has really happened.

Heck, even Star Patrol doesn't care, and they police the space from scum like us. They are just overworked and undermanned along with corruption within the ranks.

Of course, lately things have been quiet on the UNIC side and they are giving up stuff it seems as small little checkpoints have been just abandoned hastily. Heck we even got a few military grade small arms and equipment and not one Star Patrol squadron has been spotted for days.

Eh', probably nothin'.

Need Help With: World Building, story, OP format.

I have some RP ideas brewing in my mind in the past couple of days, be it in NS or PttM. And I was wondering which of it will work. And besides, I didn't have much confidence whether they'll be awesome as much as the cool guys here. However, this does not mean I will not stop trying my best, hehe. I just want some consultations to see if my ideas work tis all so I can choose one and go further with the App stuff.

Anyway...here's my ideas I come up at the moment:

1. Space Opera-style Three Kingdoms, the settings will be about Space Imperial China get into Civil War and our characters are warlords of their respective realms get to compete about who gets to be the Emperor.

2. Alternative World War-verse about the alliance of Allies and Axis going up against the resurrected Mongolian Empire comprised of Mongolia, Russia and China (the latter two were curbstomped and mostly conquered with pockets of fruitless resistance) with help of mysterious mages and outwardly demonic monsters to boost their strength.

3. A militaristic Interdimensional Empire invading Earth, a typical story about goin' up against the Evulz Empire complete with Magical girls and Mechas!

The problem with the second one is that it implies that Mongolia was somehow relevant in the 1930s. At that point it was China's bitch, and even China wasn't that important.

Really, Mongolia hasn't been much of a threat for centuries.

Its preety useful sometimes, to make people know what are their limits.
