The year is 2026, in the wake of a second American recession, the global economy is finally trudging out of the depression-like muck caused by the collapse (fueled by the banks again acting recklessly). A recent outrbeak of violence in Africa has prompted a UN-led intervention, however its formation quickly torn asunder when China vetoes the resolution, as the chaos has allowed them to seize more and more oil fields.
Western companies, as strong as ever, have started to field soldiers with experimental equipment, such as exo-suits and magnetic sensors, to combat the burgeoning influence of China. This has caused a global stir, as the mercenaries violate international law, but no politician is willing to stem the flow as the companies hold the political reigns.
The focus will be on player's fighting the Chinese and Islamic insurgent forces in different areas of Africa, using technology they will brainstorm and use. Limitations on equipment will be relatively light, but obviously nothing overly invincible will be allowed. A map showing influence and hardpoints of both China's oil companies / national investments as well as African-insurgent controlled areas will be provided, and players can choose their missions and conduct them as such.
Anyone have any input or interest in this?
Seems cool. Are we talking mercenary factions, or players?
Haven't decided. I'd like to do small groups of players, or have a few original players dedicated enough to stick around have companies that new folks can sign up for. So we actually create some canon with the few established firms.
But individual players might be difficult, as obviously there is strength in numbers.
