Okay, the other day I was thinking, and I have a barebones idea for an RP: In fiction, the Illuminati is portrayed as an incredibly powerful, world-spanning conspiracy that wants to establish a New World Order or something similar, but in real life, the actual 18th century group of intellectuals who called themselves "the Illuminati" were essentially benevolent people who liked rational thought, democracy and other Age of Enlightenment ideas. So what if the Illuminati was an incredibly powerful, world-spanning conspiracy that wants to establish a New World Order or something similar... ...made up of essentially benevolent intellectuals who like rational thought and democracy? The RP could be based around either the actions of characters within the Illuminati or each RPer would take the role of another secret society with conflicting goals, whether benevolent or malevolent. Supernatural/sci-fi stuff could exist to make things more interesting, but it doesn't have to be part of it.

I'd tap dat be interested.

The concept sounds interesting, but I'm afraid I don't really know enough about it to give my fullest opinion. So, would there be tribal rivalry, or something else?

there would be at least 4 tribes, maybe up to around 10. Each tribe would be different, some would be imperialistic dicks, others would be peaceful farmers. Yes, there would be rivalry, but also alliances, trade, everyday life, exploration of unknown lands, maybe other stuff too. Each tribe would be around the same tech, the only differences would be based on what they focused on, for example, the difference between ancient Sparta and Athens.

I basically assumed character, but faction would be pretty awesome. World governments actually fighting with or collaborating with this Illuminati.

Detailed Description: due to a mix of the reoccurring zombie hordes and the various nations battling over the world's dwindling natural resources, it was inevitable that something terrible and tragic was bound to happen. Now, 30 years after a nuclear 3rd world war devastated most of the plant, your person or group has to survive the horrors of the nuclear wasteland as long as possible, to live another day.

Off hand, I'm wondering how much of the world is accessible due to fallout. Do the frightening masses roam freely while humanity cowers in bunkers?

Well first off, basing this on every fallout related movie/tv show I've ever seen, most of what will have been nuked are major cities and military bases. As well as the aftermath of all those nuclear energy plants going critical after being left abandoned for awhile. and even then, its been 30 years so at least some of the nuclear radiation must have dissipated by now. Im just not sure if enough to survive in it, depending on where you are. Then there are small cities like seattle which I doubt would be hit cause when your launching nukes, you want to hit the country where it hurts the most, and small cities and towns where theres hardly anyone there and has no strategic significance will be just wasting a nuke, which Im guessing, most countries will have a very limited supply of. So there will probably be a good deal of space not directly touched by the nukes, but still might be close enough to the fallout zone to have some level of left over radiation. So it depends on where you are, really.

As for the bunkers, Im basing it off the fallout video games series concept. Only the country's elite and whomever of the common people that got into the vaults via winning a raffle or contest or something, would be in there. The rest of humanity would have had to hide in homemade bunkers in their cellers or under their back yards or something, or fled to the countryside where nuke drops and air raids would probably have been rare. But yes the frightening masses do roam free.

ps. side note that may or may not have an effect on the rp. While lead exists in the rp, aside from in pencils or other harmless uses, it is hardly used anymore. Things like military attaches and paint that used to hold lead, now contain a new mineral which does the same things lead does without getting you poisioned by it. Safe to say, if you find a briefcase or military style box made out of this material in a radioactive zone, or elsewhere for that matter, the contents would have been saved from the effects of the blast, both radiation and emp. But its a rare material and its highly unlikely to find anything made for the common person aside from paint and other previously lead based things, made out of it. Most likely if you find it, it will have something of military or other high government importance inside. Or just some really rich guy's fancy stuff.

Detailed Description: After an outbreak of a virus causing dead bodies to attack the living occurred in rural Georgia, it spread exponentially, overwhelming a good chunk of the state. As the virus continued to spread throughout the country, a state of emergency was declared. Major cities throughout the US were declared as safe zones and fortified with National Guardsman and any non-essential law enforcement officers. The problem with this was that the rest of the country was almost undefended. The situation was worsened in Georgia when Robins ARB was over run, resulting in the majority of the Georgia Air National Guard's aircraft being left without a crew and unusable. Robins ARB over run, most of the smaller armed forces bases in Georgia made a decision to extract to Atlanta, and in the case of King's Bay Submarine Base, to desert altogether. This left the rest of the state virtually defenseless, with local police and sheriff's departments being stretched to their limits trying to fight the infection. Because of this, civilians flocked to Atlanta, attracting more zombies with them. The soldiers defending the city began to fall, to the point where there were only 5000 left alive. Now, as more and more undead approach the city, the remaining soldiers, police officers, and anyone else willing to fight try to desperately hold the line until reinforcements from Fort Benning can arrive.

No, this is not a bad idea. Zombie RP and Superhero RP are my favorites (for it is easy to write posts about them).

Has anyone here read Conroy's Red Inferno: 1945 or his 1945? I think either one would make an excellent RP.

Red Inferno is basically when two US Divisions off of Simpson's Ninth Army break off and head towards Berlin on orders from Truman to take Berlin and show the Soviets that the US wants to ensure it gets its Occupation zone there, the Soviets, react hostily, and go to war with the United States and Great Britain. Basically backwards Operation Unthinkable.

1945 is about Operation Downfall.

Would either one of these be appealing to people?

Actually, I read it and distinctly remember really liking it - maybe that's just nostalgia speaking, but I read it and a Turtledove novel at the same time and really remember liking the Conroy one way more than Harry's stuff. It felt much more...reasonable.
And for once, it didn't feel like it had some huge political axe to grind either, which is far too common in AH stories.

While I am of course pinned down when it comes to RPing, I'll at least say you're picking good source material.

It's annoying how not having an axe to grind almost makes an AH novel of better quality than average. I mean, surely, bias isn't that hard to avoid?
