I recently realised I actually put a lot of thought in them and which accents which characters have. I realised this as I explained why I gave the big bad of Elfen High a Southern English accent. Of course, many people might not give a damn about accents at all.

I sometimes do, but it tends to be more about "this character has this background and is from this place and that would result in this accent".

That said, for example, I haven't specified this, but, for example, the older Caspian gets, the closer his accent is to the midwestern American "standard", because I believe this is the most neutral accent possible in the English language -- a thought supported by how to my ears, people who are singing usually sound like they're singing in an American accent regardless of their speaking accent.

Neutral? Nay.

I know I'm Australia, but I would say that the English spoken by 2nd-gen to childhood immigrants in Australia sounds the most neutral to me. Australian English is pretty much equal parts American and British, plus its own quirks mixed with those of New Zealand, but the widely-known Australian accent rarely gets picked by those who haven't been around for more than a generation or perhaps too, while New Zealand/South African influence is minimal, but still there.

I have noticed that there seem to have been a few Assassin's Creed themed RPs going on in PT2M at various times (I do not know anything about their quality or possibly lack thereof). I am wondering, why are there no Assassins and Templars, or similarly themed secret organizations, operating in our IC nations throughout recorded history. That would be a lot of fun. Would anyone be willing to start an ICly secret society with me on NS?

This is a good idea (and one I've actually pondered quite a bit, on and off), but it should probably be in II...shouldn't it?

I think it would be better off in the "NationStates" section of the forum than it would in "International Incidents".

Well I finally did it.

I put a character based off Darth Vader in the Gaiaverse.

Finally did it.

I hear people in that section are very pretentious and don't like you if you don't make everything in your nation from scratch and by yourself and instead just borrow from popular culture.

It's one of my quirks about my personality. I can't help but take insults too seriously or personally when it's from someone I don't really know well enough to joke with them like that. Even then, stuff my friends say gets to me.

John's nation is based on Star Wars. Nearly everything about his nation is referenced to that, including place names, the Force, species and so on. In fact, if we google parts of his nation, we keep running into Wookiepedia pages (because he'll pulled nearly everything right off that site). He's tweaked some things but the vernacular and concept are identical to the franchise. You'll find Jedi Knights, Wookies, Death Stars and other things in use. That's fine. It's his nation. There's nothing wrong with it. It simply won't work in a RP set in modern times and based on real life.

I still don't fully understand the II/NS difference other than to say that I run into realistic nations more in NS. These are MT nations which mirror real nations in the world today. They have histories which can date back to Roman times. They have constitutions and other necessary things which are so tight that they could pass for the actual thing. Think of them as non-fiction in feel.

When they hold events, they have a concept in mind. Players running scifi/fantasy/video game based nations have to conform to the host nation's laws and wishes. Magic, FT, furries, Ponies, cat girls, non-humans, dinosaurs, and such would be out of place in a setting based in real life and modern Earth, ergo that nation is denied from game play if they intend to use those things. "Non-fiction" themes aren't interested in "fiction" themes. They aren't being snobs. They're running something very realistic.

That said... "fiction"-based nations get along very well with self-similar nations. There's plenty of nations under the Diplomacy forum which borrow from fictional works. It's just a matter of finding them and then seeing if they're open to RPing.

That's more the thing with my nation. I try to make it seem like it could actually be there, but there's still the whole idea of it being fiction, which is fun to me, because playing it out here is the best it gets to it actually existing, which it doesn't.

I wouldn't want to run a realistic nation simply because I'd slip up in doing so, I'd screw up so bad if I tried playing something realistic.
