No no no. The point of hockey is for Finland to play terribly, somehow make it to the finals, and then lose to Russia or Sweden, prompting national grief that ends with "meh, we won in 2011 and 1995."

And the point of this is for the Russians to get eternal revenge for the Winter War.

I have family there, so they invited me to live with them for a year. It just so happened that their offer coincided with my mother being laid off from her job and deciding to move out of Regina, so it was really a pretty perfect setup, and while I was there she travelled for about half a year before moving to the Coast. I moved back to Canada in the summer of 2013, but by the beginning of 2014 she still hadn't been able to find work, so when she was offered a job back here in Regina, she took it. I moved out here last summer to rejoin her.

We move a lot.

Oh, I see. Hmm. I myself barely ever move; been to China a few times to stay with relatives, but only ever for a month at most.

I'm listening to Gabriel Iglesias talk about his time in India.

Apparently Indian traffic doesn't stop for anything besides cows. Anything else they just drive around it and go on their merry way.

Listening to Vietnam-era music makes me want to make an RP set in the 1970s.

I'm listening to Requiem for a Dream.

I don't really know what it's about, but if I did, I might want to make a rp out of it.

The movie is about getting addicted to drugs and watching your life spiral out of control.

Scandinavians apparently think that sort of thing qualifies as a comedy.

Is it bad that I first heard Lux Aeterna as the background music of a Rollercoaster Tycoon 3 video, and now that's the first thing that comes to mind when I hear it?

I imagine drug addiction is a common occurrence in Scandinavia.

At the very least, it would certainly explain this.

-Shrug- I first heard it on... some AMV or other. I don't really remember, to be honest.

It's not even my favorite of Mansell's songs anyway.

No, no, see, Iceland is Nordic, firstly.

And secondly that sort of thing is because living too close to a volcano makes you loopy. It makes New Zealanders attracted to sheep, Washingtonians hipsters, and Italians think they have been significant since the end of the Italian Renaissance.

This makes good deals of sense, actually.

After all, Russia lays just next to the Ring of Fire.

No, Russia is a bit different. Their name was drawn out of a hat when Schrodinger was wondering which country to do his experiments on.

Just finished The Forever War (By Joe Haldeman). Great book through I did have trouble picturing the Taurans and those...things that I can't remember what they called them.

I imagine the Taurans as just a big torso like thing with legs and arms with no head, but apparently they wear helmets. Oh well.

If you liked it, you may want to play the Muv Luv games. It's basically an average romance story that suddenly turns into a military sci-fi epic.

The greatest similarity with that novel is that the protagonist is thrust into a very different society he is unaccustomed with, and must come to terms with it while fighting a bloody alien war.

It's also one of the few Japanese works I know of that feature the US military in a somewhat prominent manner, in a way or another.

The virtual novel?

I started reading The Space Merchants, and I can't tell if I like Mitch Courtenay or hate him.

Either way, he seems to be an asshole.

Found out one of my relatives, don't know how far back, died in a coal mining accident. Had his vertebra fractured by a rock fall around two months before Germany surrendered in WW1.

Well, now I'm going to be paranoid about slate for the rest of my life.

Speaking of vertebra, I tried a new "treatment" for my scoliosis today. Here's to hoping it'll work.

Has anyone read any of those "why the west rules" sorts of books? I just finished one and I'd like to play around with its thought a bit.
