I know a guy who just moved to Pennsylvania (rather like your climate, I'd imagine) from Oman. For quite a bit of time, he struggled to deal with anything below 60 F and his reaction to his first snow was one of absolute wonderment and childish glee.

They seemed to be under the impression that it's soft, for some reason. I promptly informed them that it sucks.

Well, Qatar's okay in the winter, as long as you don't have to spend too much time outside. In the summer, though, everyone leaves except those who can't, because to spend more than 10 minutes outside makes you feel terrible.

Plus, the aircon is, as a general rule, frigid. People wore sweaters inside my school there because it was kept so cold. The transition between the outside and the inside of any building was often jarring.

And people who actually have to do work outside? Well, I'm sure they're miserable, because not only are they second-class citizens, but they have to spend their days under the hot sun with the humid air pressing in on them.

I have family there, so they invited me to live with them for a year. It just so happened that their offer coincided with my mother being laid off from her job and deciding to move out of Regina, so it was really a pretty perfect setup, and while I was there she travelled for about half a year before moving to the Coast. I moved back to Canada in the summer of 2013, but by the beginning of 2014 she still hadn't been able to find work, so when she was offered a job back here in Regina, she took it. I moved out here last summer to rejoin her.
