Meh. When I lived on the West Coast last year I had to do Phys. Ed. in similar conditions. Running tends to warm you up. :P

I do see your point, though, and I guess I can sympathise.

On the other hand, the year before that when I lived in Qatar, doing Phys. Ed. outside was brutal all times of the year, simply because the heat and humidity were so terrible. In fact, going outside at all was brutal. I honestly prefer the Canadian climate, because at least we have decent weather for half of the year.

I know a guy who just moved to Pennsylvania (rather like your climate, I'd imagine) from Oman. For quite a bit of time, he struggled to deal with anything below 60 F and his reaction to his first snow was one of absolute wonderment and childish glee.

We've broken him by now.

Yeah, though a lot of it is ball skills as well, which tends to be just more standing around. And of course, if the stick is cold, it's going to damn hurt when you whack anything. Or if you don't, even.

I imagine living in a climate like that of Qatar wouldn't be too bad for a while; there's always pools and air conditioning and everything. Living and working there would probably suck though.

Snow never happens where I live, but there's mountains where it does nearby that we've visited every year until we got tired of it.

Snow is the bane of my existence.

It's pretty, sure, very dramatic; but then you actually interact with it, and you find out it's just cold water which is fucking everywhere and will stick to everything. Snow is dedicated only to suffocating everything you've ever loved and making the corpses slightly damp.

Yeah, that sounds like a bunch of Arabs I know. I have to say, though, I was astonished when I found out that some of my friends have never seen snow.

They seemed to be under the impression that it's soft, for some reason. I promptly informed them that it sucks.

Well, Qatar's okay in the winter, as long as you don't have to spend too much time outside. In the summer, though, everyone leaves except those who can't, because to spend more than 10 minutes outside makes you feel terrible.

Plus, the aircon is, as a general rule, frigid. People wore sweaters inside my school there because it was kept so cold. The transition between the outside and the inside of any building was often jarring.

And people who actually have to do work outside? Well, I'm sure they're miserable, because not only are they second-class citizens, but they have to spend their days under the hot sun with the humid air pressing in on them.

I can sympathize with the air conditioning issue. They do the same at my school, at least during the hotter seasons, and it's pretty awful to be stuck inside in the cold and then have to go deal with the heat. I'm fairly sure it's made me sick once or twice.

I mean, if you're free to lounge around and do nothing, then cooling down isn't hard, but if you actually have stuff you need to get done it sucks.

I bet German has a word for when air conditioning is too cold and outside is too hot.

You get used to it, somewhat, but it still bothers me. Temperature changes like that tend to fuck a bit with my health sometimes.

It was school though, wasn't it? You couldn't just wander off and buy a tub of ice cream and eat that for the rest of the day with half your clothes off.

Um... no, I couldn't.

Also, school there started at 7 in the morning, and it took an hour to get to school, so mornings were a nightmare. It was nice to have a longer afternoon, though.

Oh, crap. I just remembered that next semester I have a before-school class that starts at 7:30. >.> I imagine I'll be taking a lot more cat-naps soon.

I have family there, so they invited me to live with them for a year. It just so happened that their offer coincided with my mother being laid off from her job and deciding to move out of Regina, so it was really a pretty perfect setup, and while I was there she travelled for about half a year before moving to the Coast. I moved back to Canada in the summer of 2013, but by the beginning of 2014 she still hadn't been able to find work, so when she was offered a job back here in Regina, she took it. I moved out here last summer to rejoin her.

We move a lot.

No no no. The point of hockey is for Finland to play terribly, somehow make it to the finals, and then lose to Russia or Sweden, prompting national grief that ends with "meh, we won in 2011 and 1995."

It's like NASCAR, but with big, muscular men skating around and waving sticks at a small rubber cylinder that can reach supersonic speeds and take people's teeth out.

In that many people just watch it for the fights.

Maybe. Though I'd have to come up with a different plot for it than I did with PttM.
