However, TVTropes has informed me that Jonathan Nolan is planning to make a TV series of Foundation, which fills me with nerd glee.

I was at a hockey game with some friends and the missus.

What the hell is the point of hockey?

A death struggle between Russians and excitable Canadians for a tiny, pointless object. It's soccer, but with armor and weapons, and it's all on ice.

Blood.

Annoying your ears with the sound of their skates on ice.

As a Canadian who, according to the stereotype, should be a hockey fan, I can confirm all three of these statements. I haven't been to too many games (I tend to avoid sports in general, in fact; though I do have to admit that there are some pretty hot soccer players out there :3 ), but those I have attended have done nothing for me except occupy my mind with the question: "OK, when can I leave?"

No, no. Lacrosse involves launching the ball through the air with tiny nets on poles and subsequently catching it with those same nets. Field hockey uses a wooden stick to whack the ball around on the ground. They're quite different.

IIRC, though, they both involve whacking your opponents on the shins with your stick.

Meh. When I lived on the West Coast last year I had to do Phys. Ed. in similar conditions. Running tends to warm you up.

I do see your point, though, and I guess I can sympathise.

On the other hand, the year before that when I lived in Qatar, doing Phys. Ed. outside was brutal all times of the year, simply because the heat and humidity were so terrible. In fact, going outside at all was brutal. I honestly prefer the Canadian climate, because at least we have decent weather for half of the year.
