I do link "steamwank" aesthetic, but I do agree that within RPing, scientifically possible steampunk is best.

I used to be a big fan. The first time I saw it in use was in Rise of Legends, which was a fantastic game. Now I find it pretty overused, but it's cool when used in moderation, like in Bioshock Infinite.

Perhaps it started with me when I liked Thomas the Tank Engine, what with all the steam locomotives.

I don't really get punks. They imply most, if not all of the world run on a single technology, which has never been the case in the real world.

'Information Age' is commonly used to denote the internet/communication revolution we're going through, so perhaps 'Infopunk'?
It does seem to be trending towards 'cyberpunk' though. Especially if one listens to futurists or google.
