Believe it or not, I actually support such an idea. If we can make the problem bad enough fast enough, maybe people will wake up and act. But if the problem continues to get gradually worse, people will just put off solutions and/or deny the problem until it's too late. It's the frog in the boiling water metaphor. Turn the temperature up slowly and the frog boils. But if we turn up the heat fast enough, maybe the frog will jump out. ...assuming the frog isn't too fucking stupid.
