Watching a documentary on homeless children in Romania has left me deeply pensive. And that some of the parents actually want their children to be on the streets is heart-wrenching.

I never hear of Romania ever getting foreign aid.. Does the government do anything about it?

Not much. In Bucharest, there's only 2 houses where the kids are provided with basic medical attention, baths and some food. But other than that, I don't think Romania has the financial means to do much. As of 2010, IIRC, there were 20,000 homeless children. Many of them are victims of Ceausescu's regime and polices on birth rates and abortion prohibition.

There are a lot of people who try to help, but there's only so much they can do. With these kids, many of them have been on the streets for so long, they are hooked on them. Mainly because a great majority of them are addicted to drugs, like Aurolac (which is either a paint thinner or some other similar thing). They have gotten used to ''freedom''.

EDIT: Aurolac is a Romanian paint colorant which, if inhaled, causes hallucinations.

And even at that, they can help them in learning a trade but can only help them find a job is the parents relinquish to social workers assigned to these cases these children's documents. Many parents do not, either because the documents were lost or because they just don't want to. Also, the ones who ran away from orphanages, oftentimes do not have identity papers.

Violently. They raid the metro stations, which is where these kids normally sleep at because it's warmer in there, and kick them out. Not to mention they beat them too.
