What exactly do people think will improve with a military coup? History has shown us that, in the case of Latin America for example, military coups tend to make things worse for everyone not part of the club. In other words, the same people who want a military coup are the ones who'll suffer it's effects. Which tend to be disastrous.

Pretty much. Some say Pinochet was a little exception but IIRC, Chile suffered a lot at the very beginning of Pinochet's grab for power. How many died? Thousands, I think.

By the way, the whole immortals thing Arch, Gallo, Nanatsu, Blaat and I do now and then comes from here: viewtopic.php?p=3634701#p3634701. The trick is to do it sparingly and make sure you have your historical references correct. It's lots of fun. I still smile about the one - somewhere - when somebody complemented Arch on being eloquent and I said, "You should have seen him talk that squad of Sassanian cavalry not only into letting us cross the Euphrates but helping us with all our baggage," and he came back with, "You forget, they were Nestorian Christians, it was easy to convince them." Of course, he's a professional archaeologist, so he brings a lot to the game. Me, I'm just an armchair historian.

There's also the point that, in the US at least, the military doesn't have the same power armies tend to cease in Latin America of staging a coup.

Do you think a successful military coup could happen in the US?
