Or a reference to my time in Sumer, in lovely, lost Lagash, and then you'd really be confused.

I guess I was having a momentary flash of "How the hell did I get to be this old?" Those pass quickly.

There's a Facebook group of about 5 million people supporting a new military coup in Brazil.
The guy says he will run as candidate, but the people see him as a solution to whatever happens, they just want to oust the ruling party and avoid any left-wing one or the centre-right option (that they see as centre-left) from taking place.

It's a worldwide trend to equate progress with discipline, and discipline with extreme conservative values.
(That's why I say "fuck that noise" to all three.)
We are being hit more hard.

What exactly do people think will improve with a military coup? History has shown us that, in the case of Latin America for example, military coups tend to make things worse for everyone not part of the club. In other words, the same people who want a military coup are the ones who'll suffer it's effects. Which tend to be disastrous.

Basically this.
We get nothing out of a military coup in Latin America.

Indeed that would be far more confusing.
And I really don't think you seem that old in personality; you seem to have a lot of youth in you still

Okay...
This seems a bit off the mark, and by bit I mean miles, literally.

There's also the point that, in the US at least, the military doesn't have the same power armies tend to cease in Latin America of staging a coup.
Do you think a successful military coup could happen in the US?

Probably if they suddenly all changed completely mentally to the point they would try it.

By the way, the whole immortals thing Arch, Gallo, Nanatsu, Blaat and I do now and then comes from here: viewtopic.php?p=3634701#p3634701. The trick is to do it sparingly and make sure you have your historical references correct. It's lots of fun. I still smile about the one - somewhere - when somebody complemented Arch on being eloquent and I said, "You should have seen him talk that squad of Sassanian cavalry not only into letting us cross the Euphrates but helping us with all our baggage," and he came back with, "You forget, they were Nestorian Christians, it was easy to convince them." Of course, he's a professional archaeologist, so he brings a lot to the game. Me, I'm just an armchair historian.
It can be fun, I've seen you do it and I would like to join in sometimes but, alas, I am a rookie History graduate still
not at par with more seasoned historians or people who have studied history for years.Tekania wrote:Welcome to NSG, where informed opinions get to bump-heads with ignorant ideology under the pretense of an equal footing.

Only if the country somehow becomes Communist or Fascist, the military would get rid of the Communist or Fascist heads.
