What Crimea needs is a democratic referendum that takes place without Russian influence or intimidation (ie. Russian troops piss off for a bit) and the people decide. If they choose to be Russian, then I'll agree.
Currently however, Russia has no rights over Ukraine and its rule there is illegitimate.

Other nations aren't taking as "hardline" a stance as they claim too, and we too should avoid any rash decisions.

Wrong, blind idealism will get us nowhere. There's a good reason why the UK and other EU nations won't impose trade restrictions. Like them or not, Russia is an integral part of European economics and operations.
Not only that, but entering a conflict blindly with only our naive morality to guide us is not in the best interests of the country. In my book, at least, Aurentines are higher than Ukrainians on my agenda. Do you feel differently, senator?
