Well, it's probably hard to stop it heading in that direction, really.

Unless, perhaps, there's more than a handful of people speaking out against the more egregious types of spam and spammers.

And maybe more Mod oversight on that front.

This would perhaps mean reporting it more often to Moderation, as well as people telling those who are indulging in it to stop.

People have had this discussion before, but there is often a general unwillingness for people to do it, bar a handful who either stick to it, or give up in despair.
