I support the decision A&E made to "suspend indefinitely" this individual due to his homophobic comments. Do you NSG? Or do you agree with or support his views on Gay people? More over what reprisals, if any, should homophobic artists face?

I agree with the decision, but what does A&E stand for? There's accident and emergency, but I don't think that's what you were talking about.

I suppose. I never have understood the appeal of the show. Television producers are very sensitive to anything that might damage their advertising revenues, though.

A&E has to think about how this will affect their imaging and revenue.

Now my best guess is that the majority of viewers really wouldn't care about this individual's position, but if A&E wants to keep making revenue off this in the long run, having members of the show who are homophobic, or rather, openly so, will definitely not help them out.

I don't know how I feel about a guy getting fired for a bad magazine interview. do we really want people with ugly opinions that are unrelated to their jobs to lose those jobs for expressing those opinions outside the job?

I think the issue here is that the opinions are actually quite related to the job.
If you are willingly appearing on a network, you are a face of that networks broadcasting. Stations and personalities both know this, as there are plenty of studies to show that we directly associate different tv stations/channels directly with the content/personalities that it produces.

So a big part of that job directly involves not offending viewers of that station. Now of course this varies depending on the expectations of the show (e.g. a show which directly relates to offending people / has a bias that may offend) but in general, if people expect to be in showbusiness then they need to check their opinions and decide if/or when it is appropriate to speak them. That or dont take the job.

Editors in television production do not have the power you think they have. You are perhaps thinking of producers. Of which the Robertsons themselves are heavily involved.

I had to go looking for a source on this particular complaint to avoid the tedious source game, because as I predicted the bulk of the sources on this are hysterical...Yahoo! sadly being the calmest of the bunch. Both things that you complain about were solved by the time they were revealed:

As to your "no one cares", bolocks. All of the usual suspects of course not only care, but consider it another sign of how the majority Christian population are persecuted in the US and the media is a godless horde looking to crush god and jesus etc etc.

As to half of the population thinking that gays are just a step away from fucking animals and then other women and then back to men...you know what, I don't care about a source on that. If that's what half the country thinks than half the country needs to be brought up to fucking speed. If that's what half the country thinks than it is all the more important to correct the record. An abhorrent opinion is not sacred just because you called it an 'opinion.'

Well, to be honest, I think his comments were blown a little out of proportion.

Actually, that was a response to the question of "what he finds sinful", not an exposé on homosexuals turning into animal fuckers.

I don't agree with what he said overall either, but twisting his words into some other meaning I don't agree with either.

I don't agree with his remarks but if we are to accept pro-gay remarks we must also accept anti-gay remarks. This guy losing his spot on the show just reminds me of when it was legal to fire gays for being gay.

I have no issue with A&E removing him from filming if his remarks don't mesh with the image they wish to portray to viewers.
