As for Latin American Socialism, you have to realize our countries were very much given to capitalism. In El Salvador, the Frente Farabundo Marti para la Liberacion Nacional (FMLN); and most of the civil war was fought because the country was mostly about 14 families holding most of the power (about 75-80% of the land belonged to them) and most people worked for these families. That, couples with la Junta and the assassination of Archbishop Romero prompted people to lose their patience with the government, which started the 80s Civil War, a period of history many people are just trying to forget down there due to the atrocities committed.

Basically most Latin American Socialism stems from a desire to give back power to the people and defend the interest of the poor. Some people in our Universities are even theorizing about giving Latin America a proper "welfare state" in several countries (some even supporting Social Democracy even).

Same here in the US. Most people tend to look at most Socialism as "evil communism".

I find some socialist ideas good, but to put in implementation would be catastrophic. I don't rub well with communists because they are too idealistic down here it's as if they know nothing about how a society works.

I wonder if that will result in anything productive. I find it hard for a "welfare state" to appear in Latin America in the foreseeable future, especially in the most populated countries like Brazil and Mexico.
