Now i must move onto an altogether less cheerful subject, as you all know honorable senators, last week on Friday the 22nd and Saturday the 23rd a terrible event occurred in our young nations history. Outside this very building eleven brave young men who in the line of duty to serve and protect the innocent civilians of this nation upheld their oath by paying the ultimate price. I ask you honorable senators to join me in tribute towards these eleven men brave and true. They are as follows, from the Leishaagen provincial Gendarme, Gendarmes Michael Willis and Richard Jefferson. From the Leishaagen Police Constabulary, Sergeant Harold Jordan and Police Constables Harold Jordan, Walter Peterson, Leonard Norton and Christian Turner. From the Zelle Police Constabulary Police Constables Peter Harris and George Watson, and From the Wiesen police constabulary, police constables David Baker and Robert Moore.
The death of these eleven brave men is a tragic loss for their families, they dedicated their lives to the protection of their fellow citizens at great risk to their own safety. My thoughts are with the families of the officers through this difficult period in their lives and we must resolve to support to the utmost the families concerned. These officers are also a great loss to the nation, they served with both determination and dedication in their duty to protect. We should not ever forget the sacrifices others make on our behalf so we may rest easy at night safe from harm and we should be rightly proud of the job our law enforcement agencies do.
A memorial service for the eleven officers has been arranged by the families of the officers and myself in accordance to their wishes. This is to be held at 2 pm tomorrow afternoon at the church of st Augustine. To these brave few!"
