Despite the fact that one of our leaders is a literal deity (Or at least the closest thing to that that exists in our universe), religion is very rare here. The deity in question also constantly denies the idea that she is a "Higher Power" or "Goddess", and constantly asks to not be worshipped.

Although, freedom of and from religion is still legal here, even if only very few people follow it.

We have compulsory military service ... young men must serve five years in the army before becoming true citizens.

There is no royal family. The Empress refuses to appoint a successor, and has killed more than a few assassins sent after her by our own inquisition. We just can't get a new monarch.

Earth, Mars, Luna and Alpha Centauri are really the only planets that can be considered "completely civilized". The dozens of other worlds and moons under Frenkish-Terran rule are either completely unoccupied or only contain a handful of settlers in desolate homesteads.

Zhouran has a very passionate and intense warrior culture that dates back to the birth of the Silin Dynasty in 7 BC. As a result, soldiers are highly venerated and admired by the people. Also, because of this, military service is extremely popular.

Nowadays, one has to be born into the Alexandrian military. Voluntary service doesn't really happen anymore.
