English is the only Western language I can speak. I can work my way with a number of the Asian ones though!

Germany itself is ugly and cold, but the people here are nice and I can find things to do.
I can speak English and Romanian well, and can at least communicate in French and German.
What Asian languages do you speak?

I know. But the food and the people and the culture, it's just so cool.
especially food. For $10 (US or AU, both are close enough), a family can go to a decent restaurant and stuff itself full, with potentially leftovers.

You have to compare with the money they earn. In Romania, everything is about three times cheaper than in America, but everyone gets approximately three times less money than in America.
It's fun buying stuff, because you know you aren't spending much money

I picked up Cantonese over time, and taught myself Bahasa Indonesia. I'm working on Bahasa Melayu right now, and I'll probably finish it all off with Korean.

I grew up with Standard/Mandarin Chinese and Japanese.I picked up Cantonese over time, and taught myself Bahasa Indonesia. I'm working on Bahasa Melayu right now, and I'll probably finish it all off with Korean.
My deadline for myself is by the time I'm 25, so I have roughly 3 more years to fine tune my Malaysian and move on to Korean.

Wow, cool.![]()
Good luck.
I'd like to learn an Asian language sometime in the future. Probably Japanese. But right now, that's basically impossible. :/
It'll be waaaaay more useful.

Because you're rich, comparatively.

Well, the economy is crashing and everything is getting more and more expensive. But before, yes, it was basically the same.

I can imagine German is hard enough. If you absolutely had to learn an Asian language, I'd recommend Standard Chinese.
