With death being the ultimate end, one must strive to comfort others as well as themselves through deeds of goodwill.

"That man has basically just given the enemies of his country a carte blanche to do and say anything they wish for the next three years. Those who dream of a world without America are about to have just a small taste of what they dream about. I have to wonder, will they enjoy it?"

"Beware the weak ones who stand in the place of the strong. Their lack of spine will be most costly to the nation in the short and long term." - Thanasis Floros, 1901

"The one who stands by while horrible things happen is not the better person, he is the worse one, because he did nothing because it was not affecting him. This same ideal can be applied to nations, those who watch Germany pillage and burn Europe around us are not any better, they are worse for it. Because they agree with them." - Agrippa Hortensius, October 9th, 1941

"Alright, where are we?"

"Well, we appear to be in the middle of a field marked with mushrooms."

"So what does that mean?"

"That we're standing in a field of mushrooms?"

"Dionysus, that is a military map. It is unlikely that it would detail interesting flora and fauna in the local area. What do the mushrooms symbolize?"

"It says 'mine'. So the mushrooms must belong to the fellow who made this map!"

"Either that or we're standing in a minefield!"

"So he owns the field as well?"

"You may look through our records dating all the way back to Caesar himself if you so desire, but you will not find God there. Whether or not Jesus of Nazareth existed is an academic irrelevancy at the end of the day, because people believe in him and his message regardless of whatever your silly book will say when it is published." - Mirza Abujamal, Coptic Christian and Head Librarian of the Library of Alexandria, the largest library in the Roman world. He was speaking to a duo of forensic anthropologists.

A librarian insulting a book is a little odd, perhaps, but that wasn't his profession talking towards the end there.

"There are some things you just don't fight against, me, despite all my ability, am not one of those things. But that thing in there, in that other room? That is most certainly one of those things, and if you were smart, you'd be running right now while I distract it for the fifteen seconds you need to get out of here."

Tradition adapts anyways as a result of natural causes like a lack of resources or by time. Catholicism was the main religion in Senyosu from 1500-1700, so where did it go? It changed into a new faith with similar traditions. This is a result of time, a lack of missionaries actually staying in Senyosu, and the prevalent animistic beliefs practiced alongside Catholicism.

Tradition adapts whether one realizes it or likes it. I loke to think of tradition as a river flowing downstream. Downstream is the future, which can be a lake or feeds into another river, upstream is the origin and past. Mankind also dictates where and how this river flows, a dam could be constructed to limit the flow thus limiting the amount of tradition being passed down and vice versa.

"This, this is how it works in the modern world, the young are the movers of tomorrow, there's too much foreign influence over them, too much conflict ideology taking root in their malleable little minds. They get these ideas, these filthy foreign ideas in their heads and then they gather up in number, they march in the streets. Then the old soon join them because there's strength in numbers and they didn't have the stones to go first... That's revolution in the modern world, and I'll be damned if it happens here!" - Emperor Alexander Romanov VI, 1975

"Keep your American hands off my Vietnamese Dong!"

-Humorous placard held by a student at a march at what would become Multifarian State University, who wished to voice his disapproval of 'American Imperialism' (1964)
(The Dong being the currency of Vietnam)

"Look! They're just trying to stop communism from spreading, even though rationally it's probably gone about as far as it's going to go! And if they have to do that through the mass-killing of civilians, then goddammit that's what they'll do!... Although, come to think of it, activities like that are exactly what's going to cause the chaos and resentment which leads nations to... Oh wait. Yeah, I get it now."

"Yes, we secretly supply arms to the insurgents in Afrika who are fighting to 'liberate' their lands from our occupation. I have overseen many operations to do just this. It's mostly obsolete equipment, like World War Two or Cold War-era tanks upgraded with modern equipment and weapons. Why do we do this? To keep the guerrilla war in Afrika going. Our economy (which according to some, being completely state-owned, shouldn't even work) experiences wonderful levels of growth while we are at war. The development of new weapons and technologies is accelerated dramatically. And if the price of this is as low as a few dozen dead soldiers each day, it is a price we are very willing to pay."

We are, on the whole, extremely tolerant of dissent and speech that other nations might consider treasonous. We draw our line, however, with certain types of heresy - those types that threaten to do genuine harm to us. This new cult that has arisen, worshipers of these "Children of the Void," has shown evidence of having a degree of truth and some form of highly advanced brainwashing. We now believe them to be worshipers of a species of cosmic entity, and based on information forcibly "extracted" from the cultists, we believe said species to be an existential threat to our Empire. Therefore, I first of all recommend hunting down every single member of the cult, saving them if possible, executing them if necessary, and second of all putting copious funds towards our space program. We will find these entities, and we will destroy them. - Inquisitor Hannibal Wallace, to a formal meeting between officials of the Church, the Empire, and a number of lords and CEOs.
