You kind of have to use nuclear weapons in an FT setting. Besides, ICly, Grenartia is Earth unified after a 2030s/2040s nuclear war, with several other colonies. So dealing with radiation and other nuclear shit is rather mundane.

Yeah except it will be very very easy tp see that the nuke caused it. When you use a nuclear weapon its really really easy to see that its been used. The Flash of detonation, the initial radiation, seismograph data and all of the various radioisotope gases left afterwords are all easy to detect.

Are battleships really that useful when aircraft carriers are available? Seems to me their versatility would be limited.

No, they aren't. A single aircraft carrier (assuming something along the lines of a Nimitz-class Supercarrier) can provide a lot more force much more accurately than a dozen battleships mounting 16-18 inch guns.

This is NS you don't have to worry about copyright on weapons names. And a Nuclear blast on its own will not cause a Tsunami. There were ideas for causing Tsunamis using nonnuclear bombs however none of them were ever implemented. And they wouldn't work well with nukes due to the way that they have to be detonated. (In a long line of explosives as opposed to a single point)

To say nothing of the fact that its far more effective just to, you know, actually nuke the target.

I've got some designs for seaborne battleship-carrier hybrids (basically, the flight deck is covered by a structure much like a hangar, with the bridge mounted on top, along with some of the guns, and more mounted on the sides). As for the spaceborne version, that combination is rather commonplace.
