I said she was a consideration, not a nomination. I've yet to evaluate my options.

But a large amount of this coalition (not including me) may stop backing you if you choose to nominate someone other than the coalition candidate.

Distruzio said he was interested, and I fully back him for the job. We can start to set up a cabinet now.

By the way, elections are now starting for coalition chairman. Candidates:

That is correct. Sometimes when one speaks to an African immigrant in the UK it is virtually impossible to tell what they are saying, not because they are using bad grammar but because of their thick accent. Before you ask I also find Geordies impossibly difficult to understand, its virtually a whole new language. :)

So I assume, as last vote count was, I won nomination as candidate. I would like to make my first proposal for the cabinet. I would like Senator Gothmogs to remain in the MoE position, he is the most environmentally active member of the senate.

Also I vote Finium.

Of course and of course.

Your views on the current government?

The current government has proven itself quite conciliatory to all parties of even the most disparate political bents. While I personally do not ascribe to similar opinions I cannot deny that such an approach has proven quite effective at satisfying the public. That, of itself, does not, necessarily, discredit my own personal biases but it does show me that alternatives are just as valid. Which is a particular quality (my willingness to consider opinions and positions on their merits rather than on their deviation from my own) that has, in my experience, proven quite advantageous. If I'm to be considered for any position of influence in the Senate, if I'm to honorably and respectfully represent my constituency, my party, and my nation each, then I must recognize value where it lies. Thus I, while disagreeing with particular actions of this government at times, will never deny my approval of the results.

Your views on foreign policy?

My positions are of an Aurentine-centric perspective. I would, ideally, see our nation more closely aligned with the United Kingdom and her Commonwealth Realms although I do see the benefit of close ties with the nations of the European Union. A just and proper economic and financial policy that emphasizes the preeminence of this governments commitment to her population is, I believe, paramount. Therefore I would not take kindly to legislation that bends the Aurentine economic actors to the whims of foreign nations. Mind you, this is no articulation for autarky. Such is the way to despotism, I am certain. A foreign policy conveying eternal commitment to amicable and reciprocal economic, cultural, and political respect among all nation with which we deal is the clear way to Aurentine prosperity... so long as this government (and any future government) remembers where its loyalty lies - to Aurentina.

Your views on freedom of speech?

Our political opponents will seize upon my own affection for the ideal of monarchism as a way to undermine this coalition through fearmongering. Of that I have no doubt. They will paint us as theocratic, despotic, and nigh totalitarian in our intent. They will challenge the public to consider a skeptical view of government synonymous with adulation for tyrannical government. And my presence on the platform will justify this perception for them... unfortunately, the truth requires distortion for these tactics to hold any legitimacy.

I am a liberal traditionalist, sir. Liberty is the primary virtue of humanity; there can be no other. If we on the right emphasize the preeminent existence of the individual Aurentine then we must, as a necessity, recognize those individuals self-ownership. And we do. With such a recognition central in our coalition manifesto it becomes clear to any but the most belligerently pigheaded that civil liberties are, therefore, obvious and undeniable. Freedom of speech is no right. It is no enigmatic abstract ideal enforced by government. It is fact: as much a fact as the existence of the human being themself.

I say this as a monarchist first and foremost. I cannot - I will not - brook any infringement of free speech. For to do so is to challenge the existence of the individual as a sovereign and independent being. That would be unconscionable to me.

Do you support interventionism?
[/quote]

Military interventionism? No, sir. I would, however, support international ostracism. Any foreign government that proves itself hostile to its population deserves, I think, outright vilification and ostracism. Rather than relying on military intervention or economic sanctions which only punish the poorest and most vulnerable of the foreign population, I would see Aurentina repudiate recognition of the offensive regime outright and forthwith. It is never the population with which a government takes offense - it is ever the other government of that population. Therefore I could not, in good conscience, support any initiatives that bring harm and suffering to the victims of oppressive regimes.

That said, I would, however, support the initiation of foreign medical and nutritional aide stations within the territory of cooperating governments for the harboring of refugees. Aurentina must be seen as a neutral but dependable ally of the citizens of the world rather than a rampaging brute in search of demons to slay.

I would, also, support the military defense of allied nations under the initiated offensive of hostile nations with the expectation that they, likewise, commit to a mutual defense of Aurentina.

---

I look forward to any other questions you, or any other senator, might have.
