Well, the DMR is chambered in .308, iirc, and the Sniper Rifle is 14mm. Both rounds more than capable of reaching out there.

Wiki, which is kinda faulty in its own right for this kind of information, lists its effective range as being 800m. That's closer than all sniper rifles today.
But I guess the main problem with Halo is that the UNSC uses hilariously outdated technology.

Actually both rounds are designed for targets well past there. .308 is for stuff around 3-4 times as far and 14mm, you're looking at stuff 10 times that distance. Most FPS Video games are pitiful in their engagement distances compared to RL.

An understandable thing, otherwise the games wouldn't sell.

Planetside 2 and Arma 2 are doing pretty well IIRC.

ARMA sells well enough. BF3 on PC also had some decent sized maps although not on console and they didn't get used as much as smaller maps.
