It's hardly weird, it's pretty much apartheid with aliens.
Not that weird.

EDIT:
"It's pretty much Apartheid" is an understatement, Apartheid is actually exactly what the movie is about.

And I would argue that any good movie should have some level of weirdness, otherwise you tend not to have an original movie
