Quite honestly, it's the reason I'm not involved with any of them.
George Takei though, despite being Buddhist, has done a good job on his FB page to be mindful that there are a number of Christans/churches that are supportive.

One of my favorite lines I've ever read was an inbox from another NSer back in the day, who's fairly involved in his church and a devout Christian. He told me the reason he still embraces faith is: "God wouldn't create a person to hate them for a trait He built them with. God sees people in need of love, and as a loving deity, it wouldn't be in His nature to condemn a portion of humanity to Hell for a trait which cannot be helped, and He wants to love His children and be loved back, whatever their orientation."
I dunno why, but that quote has really stuck with me over the last 2 years.

Also, oddly, between online and offline, my gay/bi friends are on the whole more proportionately Christian than the straights are. It's like 75% of my gay/bi friends are Christian compared to about 55% of my straight friends.

Someone should scrap the whole church system and replace it with the more Christian, Liberationist Theology. It's what Jesus most likely intended for.

If I may be honest, I believe the church system as we know it needs the boot.
The individual denominations need to be on the receiving end of a heave-ho.
Churches should be buildings where people can come together to fellowship and learn, but they should be interchangeable in an ideal situation.

Unfortunately, peaceful denominationalism is the best we have, and it sure beats the hell outta wars between the churches.

What I find to be an entirely hypocritical standard is I don't see males getting called disgusting for having a penis. Yet when a female has a penis, it's suddenly barf-inducing. How the fuck does that work. It doesn't add up.

It's great that George points that out, because they often get drowned out by the likes of Westboro. The campus minister at my alma mater (not a priest, thanks to the priest shortage) has done his best to make that Newman Center a place where LGBT+ Catholics feel totally welcomed, at least among that congregation.
That said, I understand why so many of our LGBT+ brothers and sisters turn away from faith. I wish they wouldn't write it off completely, but I do get it.
