We were in WW2. We were a british territory. And speaking of our posistion, we probably have a very large number of veterans. Look at malta, they saw furious combat for more then a year, with the island nearly bombed to pieces, and large parts of the population joined the wareffort.
It is foolish to think a nation of 40 million sitting right off the coast of Italy and Occupied France saw absolutly no combat, and even more foolish that in their darkest hour the British didnt once consider drafting Aurentines into their armies.

As minister of Veteran Affairs, I can not say for certain as of this time how many veterans we have. I will have to pull a census of british war veterans firt, and do some math.... you get the idea

Then wouldn't it be better for any budget to be proposed when we have these figures to justify spending on such a scale?

Here is my first report as VA minister

These are GBs veteran figures as of 2007. Mind you, assuming you enlisted in 1945 and you were 16, the youngest you could be now is 84
"approximately five million servicemen and servicewomen in the British armed forces." (1)
"Projected Number of Living WW II Veterans (as of 9/30/2007): 2,795,000 "(2)

So as of 6 years ago, the survival rate was about 56%. Now, the british population in 1939 was:
"In the summer of 1939 the estimated population of Great Britain (ie. England, Wales and Scotland) was 46,467,000 (46 Million 467 Thousand)." (3)
So their warforce particpation rate was about 11%, and Britains current population is:
"62.74 million (2011)" (4)

Now here is where our nation comes in, and all the figures become more iffy. Im going to for now assume that our population growth is the same as a nation that is of a similar climate and similar current population: Spain. They had a population of 25 million (5) in 1939, and now have a population of 47 million. thats an 180% increase in population.

So, taking our current 40 million and decreasing it by that much gives us a wartime population of: 22.2 million. Lets assume our warforce participation never went higher then 10%. That leaves a total army of 2.2 million. Taking britains veteran survival rate of 56% gives us approximatly:

GDP is £1.2 trillion. Now, I'm presuming with the National Tax Act, we'll be running with a tax revenue rate of 30% in proportion of GDP, which is about £1,217,829,612,732. Henceforth, from that, we'd be running a deficit of £262,093,466,684, as spending would reach £527,442,350,503, with £365,348,883,819 earned in tax revenue. However, with a tax revenue rate of 50% in proportion of GDP, which would occur upon the passing of the Tax Reform Act due to an increase in Corporation Tax and the scrapping of a very low Sales Tax in favour of a moderately high VAT, we'd earn a revenue of £608,914,806,366. With spending at £527,442,350,503, that's how we get our surplus.

OOC: We've got lives, you know! Anyone can (and should) count the vote, especially people who have time to sit around and complain. Personally, I spent all day doing trauma therapy homework and picking up medicine. Counting votes is simply not going to take priority over those things. Defecit is debt accumulated per budget cycle, debt is longer term though. Dont treat me like a child senator, it shall get you no where
