Kamchastkia, can I just say that I was writing on my personal behalf and not on behalf of the senate or Aurentina, I am free to do things like this.

I could go on, but I don't want to start a debate about the British monarchy, so I won't.

Doesn't mean it should go unchallenged. Just because you can do something doesn't make it okay, or right.

It is not okay to offer congratulations to a future head of state? I'm not saying you can't criticise me for it, I'm saying that I have the right to offer congratulations to people that I may one at meet during my time as President.

In my opinion, it was not wrong. I'm not sending a letter to President Assad congratulating him on his recent successes in the Syrian Civil War, I am sending a letter to congratulate the birth of a future King.

Actually we should send a letter to President Assad.

So we shouldn't congratulate a developed European nation on the birth of their Queen's great-grandchild... but we should congratulate a leader that violates international law and uses chemical weapons on his own citizens? :eyebrow:

When the only organization that says he used chemical weapons has an interest in seeing him overthrown and has not released the "so called proof" and has yet to convince the UN, there is no proof that chemical weapons were used by Assad, when the UN itself has strongly inclined to believe the terrorists themselves used chemical weapons.

Conceded.

I still don't see how sending a letter of congratulation to the constitutional monarch of a developed and democratic country is worse than sending a letter to an only allegedly elected president who has ruled as part of a 4 decade long "state of emergency" and is the leader of a political party that is constitutionally the only leading party in the state...

Assad's regime bombed civilian targets! He is a war criminal! There is absolutely no excuse for carrying on any sort of diplomacy with him. Lets send a nice letter to the Queen congratulating her on the birth of her grandchild, and leave the crazy despot alone.
