Politicians have a social media presence IRL. It's also rather simple and fun to send a few tweets off once in a while.

None th eless, who exactly are you visiting in Sryia? Because if its not the Sryian government you may really want to check carefully who your looking at. You know, for when the CIA abducts you midflight and asks you, "What do you know about X man you met yesterday?"

I am meeting the government, although I doubt that the CIA would kidnap a senator from a European nation.

Also, do you really think it's wise to meet with Bashar?

For the first part, fair enough. At least you know who your dealing with, and they will show you the clean officials. Would you mind if i accompany you? It would be interesting to see the situation in person
Also if you dont think they would kidnap you if they really wanted to, explain Eva morales :D

More then that. In any case, if somebody shoots at your, are you not supposed to shoot back? Espessialy when its clear the majority of Sryia actually supports you? Like it or not, Assad still has majority support in that country, and the onyl reason he hasnt won is because all the islamic terrorists flooded the country.

Warzones usualy arnt nice places no. But I know of worse places in the world then Sryia. In any case, Damascus still ahs some pretty cool histocal sites untouched by the violence, and then there is Antioch which may or may not sitll have its large churches intact, and if we ever get in trouble: Run like hell to the russian naval base at Tartus.
Besides, it would be good for our nation to try to establish a foreign policy. What better way then to visit the literal center of the action? Buisness and tourism (discount cause nobody is going to overcharge us for staying in a warzone)=win win.

And the nice thing about authoritarian regimes is that if they want you to be safe, you will be safe
