Looks like I have a really long life ahead of me.

My ancestors have tended to live well into their 60s and 70s even when that was rather uncommon... Of course, in the 20th century, they've often been in one kind of agony or another starting around 45...

Mine lived into their 80's.

We have some ailments but not many and they are usually survivable.

I have a family history of people not making it past 60. And death, paid or otherwise.

My family history is full of people who are not me, so I never managed to get that interested in it. :(

But the plunder may be worth the added difficulties, though seeking a major engagement is only a weekend business.

It is. And French maidens...o la la.

The maidens aren't much of a draw for me at the moment... Of course, the Vikings wouldn't have cared for me because of that. Even before they started converting to Catholicism en masse, gay (or anything that wasn't straight, really) wasn't really OK with them.

I very nearly googled "gay viking" then. Thought better of it in time.
Read "A Man For All Seasons". That explains most of what I believe in. Except the Catholic bits.

Outside of here I do lead a rather unusual and colourful life. As a Spinster.

Yeah, the anti-gay and misogyny stance that the Catholics have imposed on some of our fellow Vikings is a bummer.

Though adding the word history leads to (my short version) "they probably weren't that anti gay, just anti-not having children or being the...well, um, the vase not the flowers?"

Yeah, the anti-gay and misogyny stance that the Catholics have imposed on some of our fellow Vikings is a bummer.

Almost all of them went Lutheran by 1650, and, if I recall correctly, every Viking jurisdiction but the Faroes has marriage equality.

I have a plan for my fiftieth birthday. I'll fake my death a week before it and during the funeral which would conveniently be on my fiftieth birthday I would wait until one of my older relatives is crying over me and I'll say "rawr" with my eyes closed and she'll think she's going crazy and while people are getting food I'd get food with them and they would be like "aaah".

best fiftieth birthday ever
