So I found out that a great great great grandparent of mine is from Nottinghamshire. And that even in the bloody 19th century my family lived ridiculously long lives (especially for working class folk).

Looks like I have a really long life ahead of me.

Yes, but when using primarily a mixed light and medium infantry, forming shield walls and bringing spears would be a little much for a simple raid, so it would have to be a larger offensive, and strategically, if one wants to get the greatest return for minimum investment to finance other conflicts, multiple short raids, minimizing your own casualties is the way to do it.

But the plunder may be worth the added difficulties, though seeking a major engagement is only a weekend business.

My ancestors have tended to live well into their 60s and 70s even when that was rather uncommon... Of course, in the 20th century, they've often been in one kind of agony or another starting around 45...

I have a family history of people not making it past 60. And death, paid or otherwise.
