You tend to notice similar weird effects with actual black holes. Like, if you were falling into one (at least a supermassive BH), theoretically, you should be able to survive until you pass through the event horizon, after which you'd get fried by all the extremely blue-shifted EM radiation (to get an idea of how extreme, its not inconceivable that FM radio waves could be seen with the naked eye) the BH has acquired.

However, an outside observer in a safe orbit would see you die before you hit the event horizon (due to spaghettification).

Nah. As a whole, we're better than most nations. Not saying we're perfect, but as it stands, compared to the nations that are better than us, there's not much more room for improvement. If the best country had a grade of 100, we'd have approximately a 93, with only a few other countries between us and the top.
