All that remains is to show that biological systems replicate in such a way as to satisfy the minimal criteria required for evolution to apply to them, something which has already been adequately shown time and again. At this point, we've pretty much proven that not only can evolution happen, it pretty much must happen since it's basically impossible to prevent it from happening.

That would be an apt description for how I feel sometimes. I function well enough around other people. Unless it's in a large unfamiliar group, but once I find my footing I manage to strike up some conversations. I do feel distant from people, though.
It does always feel like I'm "playing along", though. It always feels like a conscious effort. I'm quite content to be on my own with my own thoughts, and when I'm around people too long, I find myself missing that constant introspection.
First there is no substitute for counseling, so you need to get that done and to be honest and not try and "out think" the therapist.
But that being said, I think the problem is you're being a bit too goal oriented, too driven by the ending. You need to do something that demands all of your attention in the moment, something that has no room for thinking about something else or it will punish you for it.
So... how are your legs these days? Got any odd allergies to pollen or anything found in your typical forest?
