No. I've always suspected, though. I'm in my 20s now. I'm not sure if a doctor would even consider it. He'd wonder why it hadn't been diagnosed before. I had a lot of behavorial problems as a kid, and I've always struggled with focussing my attention. I just wish I knew how to focus.

You should go see a doctor and suggest it. If he disagrees, he disagrees. If not, you can get meds.

Getting drunk usually helps.

Here's the thing; you have to follow through when you start a project. Believe me I've been there, you get bogged down in the little stuff and then it seems overwhelming, but keeping your mind on the endgame and what something should be when it's there is perhaps the greatest motivator available today.

I'm not even talking about getting slightly distracted. I lose focus within minutes. Sometimes I never even get passed deciding to do something. My mind just wanders onto something else, and I lose total interest. The only way I can imagine doing it is by forcing myself to do it, but I know I wouldn't enjoy it. That's probably why I don't. I can so vividly see the endgame of what it is that I want to achieve, that I no longer feel that I need to achieve it.

I'm going to try writing down a well thought out to do list, and break it down into manageable tasks. Maybe that'll work. Turn a big project into smaller manageable ones.

That honestly reads like some sort of concoction of ADHD and clinical depression really. As you said you're getting that checked, why not get both?

Deadpan humour is very popular here in the UK, but not many Americans understand it. I personally struggle to find many American sitcoms funny. I find canned laughter extremely cheap. Personally, I feel that canned or "audience" laughter has actually become a substitute for actual humour, and is akin to;

"Laugh monkey, laugh!".

Audience laughter works well because you know when the "joke" has been told. It doesn't have to be funny, but something you'd never laugh at on your own becomes a social obligation. I don't think it counts.

I've been diagnosed with clinical depression in the past. About 5 years ago. I wouldn't say I felt depressed now. Not like back then. Sure, I have my bad days now and then, but I'm sure everyone does. I would say though that I rarely feel happy.

Unfortunately depression isn't an all or nothing deal, sometimes the taps are on just a little.

That would be an apt description for how I feel sometimes. I function well enough around other people. Unless it's in a large unfamiliar group, but once I find my footing I manage to strike up some conversations. I do feel distant from people, though.

It does always feel like I'm "playing along", though. It always feels like a conscious effort. I'm quite content to be on my own with my own thoughts, and when I'm around people too long, I find myself missing that constant introspection.

Hmm...

First there is no substitute for counseling, so you need to get that done and to be honest and not try and "out think" the therapist.

But that being said, I think the problem is you're being a bit too goal oriented, too driven by the ending. You need to do something that demands all of your attention in the moment, something that has no room for thinking about something else or it will punish you for it.

So... how are your legs these days? Got any odd allergies to pollen or anything found in your typical forest?
