I disapprove of the way it's currently handled, but don't see what's wrong with various business and political leaders meeting, as long as it's appropriately transparent and doesn't result in any underhanded deals or donations.

Free South, that's just off-colour and totally uncalled for.

You must mean Saul Califas.

ETA: tl;dr=I meant to refer to Autism Spectrum Difference, and not, to be clear, to tell anyone they had any kind of "Disorder" - that's between them and the medical community, or not, as they choose. But denying the unity of Autism Spectrum Difference is offensive because it implies stigma and thus throws the rest of us under the bus - including many like me who were also diagnosed with "Asperger's Syndrome", now a historical term for a once-misunderstood phenomenon.

Let me back up a step, because this is an area where rigidly clinging to the Asperger's label is actually kind of offensive to the rest of us - people are certainly free to disagree, but the new DSM rightly clarifies what we know today which is that "Asperger's Syndrome" was not separated from "Autism" (insultingly classified as "Disordered" with arbitrary "Low-Functioning" and "High-Functioning" divisions) for any justifiable reason. If you look it up, the distinction hinged on section B, which every single person with Autism Spectrum Difference (to be clear, I'm saying Difference, not Disorder) can answer 'yes' to but in practice came down to the prejudices of clinicians. And, sometimes, their attempts to mark off patients they liked from people marked with a stigma.

You have to understand, Syndrome is a term for a group of symptoms not yet understood well enough to place it definitively, and AS was workable for the medical community for a long time, but now, if someone goes around still saying they have that label, what they're really saying includes the assumption that there are "Low Functioning" and "High Functioning" "people with autism" and that they're like "HFAs" except for some distinction without clinically observable difference. I was diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome too. Also notice I'm saying "autistic", not "a person with autism" i.e. some kind of negative condition - frankly, if people with Autism Spectrum Difference go around saying they have something that means the same thing but denying the stigma, I'm a little insulted and offended myself.

Maybe I'm too sensitive, I'll give you that. But what I think is most offensive is that you would call autism a bad thing like this. Is that what you think of my existence, as fundamentally diseased?

I want to agree as far as open discussion in this thread is concerned, yet, I feel I also have an obligation to answer recent questions and responses in good faith aimed at me, so here are those answers in teh spoiler for those who are interested:

Geilinor wrote:
Free South Califas wrote:I don't see how that's relevant. For one thing, Asperger's doesn't exist, you're autistic.

Would you want to expose yourself to the stereotypes of autistic people? Perhaps they aren't ready to identify themselves as such. You can't force anyone to identify with anything.

Let's not forget what I was responding to:
Quebec and Atlantic Canada wrote:I have Asperger's and I don't give a fuck if someone says herp-derp, FSC. Drop the issue.

A person explicitly trying to silence me. You say "force" - I saw words on a screen from a non moderator but whatever - that calls into question the people trying to silence me and tell me not to be offended. If that person is deliberately trying to hide from the truth that we share a spectrum difference from neurotypicals, using a Syndrome developed to help understand the people who had marked differences in degree of symptomology and etc. from others who reported similar history and internal experiences, that is really dishonest and they should know that is wrong. Who hides from medical progress in order to throw the rest of their community under the bus? I have embraced the truth and it is offensive to me that others with some of the same struggles would be happy to stigmatize me in that way just so they can claim they're special.

Byzantium Imperial wrote:
Free South Califas wrote: Asperger's doesn't exist

I actually know someone with Aspergers syndrome. It is not autism, regardless of medical definitions these days.

I was diagnosed with it, too. It's literally an outdated concept for something that wasn't yet understood. That's what a syndrome is, it's a way to understand a group of symptoms and put the idea to some testing without declaring it is or isn't better understood another way.

We now know what Autism Spectrum Difference is. DSM only recognizes it as a "Disorder", but to be clear, that's not at all what I'm saying - I do not intend to tell anyone else they have a "Disorder". Far from it, that is between them and the medical communtiy.

New Zepuha wrote:
Free South Califas wrote:Look, I get it. You have the privilege not to care about this stuff, and you want to force me not to care.

You can't. I do. It's not by choice.
1. That's not how evidence works;
2. They're wrong, an earlier scene involved Rob Schneider in a car;
3. That's not where I'd go to find out if something is offensive, because we don't represent a large number of people in society and are less likely to be understood in that detail by a site that doesn't focus on antidiscrimination and such things.
4. Stop trying to prove it's inoffensive and unhurtful - it is offensive and hurtful, and offended and hurt me. I don't see what else there is for you to do about it but spam, which is against board rules, or TG me, which is against the rules because I'm asking you not to (I do not need to defend my right to be treated with equal respect and dignity), or get over it. I'll cry you a river later.

No just no, I've never even heard of HerpDerp being close to that and you can't just use the term 'nigger' as an example. That in fact has been used blatantly as a racist slur, and is recognized as such. You are totally right, we don't understand because no one does. I'm sure I can walk into my mothers classroom of SpecialEd students, say HerpDerp and they'd either ignore me or ask me what I'm doing. Stop trying to prove it is slanderous.
Stop trying to silence me. Your experiences and thought experiments are not the same as those I have lived.

Sorry if I come off confrontational
You're not the only one who's given the impression, to be fair.

but it aggravates me to no end that your tone is so arrogant and pushy.

You infer presumably nuanced "tone" from text - I must say this is a difficult area to meet exacting standards in given that I have both ASD and a developmental disorder, a factor that has been ignored in the backlash against my standing up for my dignity.
But if this has happened to you before, it can hardly be called a slur, sorry but no special cases. But try to be cordial about things and it'll be less of a headache for all of us.

I'll do my best to be more observant, Senator. The advice is appreciated.

I fill that such a punishment should only be used for people who have committed crimes against the state like Tresion and Terrorism. But I also feel that if a person has been given life imprisonment he or she should be slowed to opt out of life in prison in favor out a death sentence. However that will be their choice to make.

I also feel that no matter what we should make the act of killing a prisoner as humane as posible and should strive to be as humane as posible.

As a strong Antisexual as quiet frankly is only both the states and the participants involved need to know about it, I think it wise to strengthen these laws as most of these are practically pointless but again I'm a supporter of goodsex so that guess that makes my opinion not valid.
