Well, most tales and stories from some oral traditions were ultimately written down. I guess what I was curious about is the oral aspect of it. Are these stories told orally still? Aside from the study of the Talmud (using the written documents), is the Law passed down orally too?

The Talmud is essentially 80% Law and 20% stories... about 10% of those stories have legal backing to them... it is very hard to grasp the meaning of these Oral Stories from the way they are written... thanks to commentators who heard it from their teachers and have wrote down how it is to be read... we can perhaps more easily understand them.

See, that's amazing. It is sad that the oral tradition has died in most cultures. I know that some Native Americans still keep it alive, barely, but in most other places, it is a dead tradition. Which saddens me. Without it, I don't think one can have a sense of community. :/
