Fine. Slightly annoyed by the blatant bigotry on this forum, but faring well that other members of the family. Found out Sunday night that my grandma's house was partially flooded out under an inch of water. Now that the carpets have been ripped up and the skirting board's have followed suit, she's found that the water that entered the house has crept six inches up the wooden framing (note that this was after a massive downpour which dropped an inch of rain in one hour).

Thankfully, everything's covered by insurance. Which is lucky because some people didn't have any.

As far as we know, it's only superficial. Basically it's only cleaning or replacing the carpet and skirting boards. It's the first time she's had water in the house but not the first time her property has been flooded.

And you know what the stupid thing is? The council won't accept any responsibility for any of the damage caused, despite the fact that many properties in the areas affected told the council about their bad drainage or lack of proper drainage at all (some properties in my gran's suburb and elsewhere aren't connected to the stormwater system).

Wow, that's unfair.

Well, it's not so much unfair as the council being dickish. They claim that there'd be no point in upgrading the system because these events don't happen often (despite at least three notable events happening in the last five years, two of which with record breaking rainfall totals).
