What's wrong with it? A millionaire won't actually be paying 80%. Their first 25k would be exempt, the second 25k would be taxed at 20%, their next 30k would be taxed at 40%, and so on.

Yes. The vast majority of people will not pay more than 40%. This is reasonable and is similar to Irish rates, except I have added higher rates on the brackets above 80,000.

Also, do you have any idea of RL tax rates? You'll find they're not far off this on the lower bands and in fact in some cases are a lot higher.

Updated to address concerns about wording and to include more co-sponsors.

National Tax Act

Urgency: Very High

Drafted By: Geilinor

The government of our yet to be named nation:

5.00% of income earned between 16,000.00 and 50,999.99 NSC shall be levied
15.00% of income earned between 51,000.00 and 100,999.99 NSC shall be levied
30.00% of income earned between 101,000.00 and 500,999.99 NSC shall be levied

Please do tell me why my rates are so ridiculous, when compared to yours:

Income Taxes shall be levied at:
0.00% of income earned between 0 and 15,999.99 NSC:shall be levied
5.00% of income earned between 16,000.00 and 50,999.99 NSC:shall be levied
15.00% of income earned between 51,000.00 and 100,999.99 NSC:shall be levied

40.00%of income earned between 501,000.00 and 999,999.99 NSC:shall be levied
Any income earned above 1,000,000 NSC: shall be levied at 45.00%

Basically, unless we have a nation of millionaires, the senate will be rendered powerless by a lack of funds. You are taxing the vast majority of our people at only 15%!

And I went through and did the math. Someone who makes 1,000,000 annually will have more than 64% of their income taxed away.

To get it through with liberal support, It needs to be at that level. I negotiated this with the liberal chairman. This is the best we can hope for, to protest is folly. I have the support of Wolfmanne,Subramani ,Radiatia, and New Sapienta so far for we all negotiated it with Geilinor . I recommend this as a three line whip issue.

30.00% of income earned between 101,000.00 and 500,999.99 NSC:shall be levied
40.00%of income earned between 501,000.00 and 999,999.99 NSC:shall be levied
Any income earned above 1,000,000 NSC: shall be levied at 45.00%

Basically, unless we have a nation of millionaires, the senate will be rendered powerless by a lack of funds. You are taxing the vast majority of our people at only 15%!

We aren't spending any money yet. So, not really. Besides, they can also be raised later.

Anyway, I find taxing the majority of people at 40% excessive, as well.

Eh, as far as know, we could be a starving developing nation with HDI lower than the DCR's.

0-25,000: Exempt
25,000-50,000: 20%
50,000-80,000: 40%
80,000-150,000: 49%
150,000-200,000: 65%
200,000-1,000,000: 70%
1,000,000+: 80%

Well, that certainly is one way to provoke a conservative revolution.

Most European countries don't find it excessive.

Not necessarily. It rather depends on senatorial spending and the overall effects of taxation.

I am skeptical that the right-wing political organizations would agree to such tax rates. The objective of the NTA is to act as a compromise between two drastically divergent views of how the economy should function. It's attracted co-sponsors from several different parties, and seems likely to pass if brought to the Senate floor.
