Yes, and the countries that transitioned from a monarchy to a republic simply replaced the monarch with a President who has no real power (see Germany).

The only difference is that a President costs the people more since you have to keep paying for elections every X number of years.

At least the President is democratically elected, and not just lucky enough to be born into the position.

The State of Aurora, or the State of Axarea, or the State of ____________.

I like it that way, like the State of Japan, as it is known these days.

If they're elected, then I'd argue they're not technically a monarch...

Democracy isn't a magic wand that makes everything better than it was before.

Constitutional monarchs do the same work as figurehead presidents, for less cost to the taxpayers and greater ease in transition.

Plus, a constitutional monarch is a stable diplomatic representative of his people that other national leaders can get to know and negotiate with.

I would say that Senators can put themselves forward for the position as Caesar, and they then have to secure 75% of the Senate to hold the office.

A true Roman would never burn the city of the Eastern Roman Emperors to the ground ...that's Frankish speak.

...However, we could enact a special taxation law for the illegal use of the name Nova Roma and tax the citizens of Constantinople 'till they starve, then we would offer them bread as prize for winning gladiatorial battles.
