For technology isn't perfect and there is always a chance of failure, therefore we maintain a body of sapient agents meant to go in and investigate their objectives first hand and conduct espionage the old-fashioned way."

I feel there's a reference in there, it supplied lulz regardless.

"What we did to Ruthenia can never be compared to what the Eslovaks have done to the Amethians, or what the Belkans have done to the Darcsen. Never did we seek the abolition of the Ruthenian race, never did we seek them all to die to the last child. Do not compare us to monsters with nice faces. Those killed in Ruthenia were regrettable, as all lost in war are; but never, never did we attempt to genocide the Rysun people." - Sir Alexander Yordanov

"We prayed, all through those terrible days for America to come and save us and America never came." - President Bojan Petrovic when asked why he held the United States at arms length; he was referring to the Annstanian Civil War which raged on for more than a decade while the world watched to see who the winner was for the vast majority, only stepping in at the very end when those who were 'winning' began the systematic extermination of all those not of Serb descent.

"Wait, let me make sure I've got this. This guy you don't know breaks into your home, in the middle of the night. You're there, and so are your wife and children. You wake up and find him just rummaging around in your living room, presumably looking for valuables of yours which he can carry off and sell. Upon seeing you, he attacks you. He has a knife, and so we can safely assume his intention wasn't to give you a hug. You struggle with him, during which time he is slashed with the knife he attacked you with, before he is knocked unconscious. The police arrive and haul him down to the station to spend the night there. Days later, he sues you for the slash wound he suffered while attacking you in your own home...and he wins the case. Does that sound right?"

"It doesn't sound right, no, but it does sound like what happened."

"No wonder you moved here. Welcome home, brother. I think you'll like it here."

Postby Ruridova » Mon Sep 16, 2013 9:50 pm

"Recently something happened, something that should not be politicized. I will politicize it anyways; that is my job.
Chief Petty Officer Nicholas Kristoffersen was a sniper in the Terranovan navy. He did a fantastic job in the name of duty, liberty, country. He fought for justice and freedom, and did what he had to do to ensure that the lives of people not just at home but around the world were saved. He wrote a book, entitled Terranovan Sniper, on the subject. Kristoffersen was a strong man, a courageous man, a brave man, a great man. Returning from service he helped soldiers with PTSD, post-traumatic stress disorder.
He died far too young, like many soldiers do, but not on tour. He was killed at home, by a man with a gun.
There is no doubt that Kristoffersen was the anti-gun control crowd's 'good guy with a gun'. This was a man who served his country dutifully and then moved to serve his fellow man. He died armed, at a shooting range. Next to him was one of his friends, also a veteran, also armed, and also dead by the end of the day. Both of these men were not only armed but were soldiers with much experience; Kristoffersen, as stated, was an exceptional sniper. They had weapons, they knew how to use them. They were the ideal good guys with guns: dedicated soldiers and do-gooders. Yet both were shot and killed by a bad guy with a gun, because no one had tried to prevent the bad guy from getting a gun, no controls or regulations.
Several years before a man by the name of Major Nidal Assad opened fire on several people in Fort Reagan base in the Terranovan state of Jacinto. We're not talking about a place where guns are forbidden in Terranova, like a school or hospital. This was a functioning, staffed, UST military base. And yet at least a dozen people died. Where were the good guys with guns? In one case dead, in the other case missing. We could prevent this by placing them everywhere, yes, but I don't much fancy anything with that much resemblance to a police state. And at that point you are relying on guys who may not be as good, or as trained, as it seems. A large Terranovan trial recently ended, the accused being accused of killing a man pre-emptively, or at least unnecessarily.
They say that had gun control in Terranova been even laxer, cases like Columbia High School, Breezy Point Elementary, the 2011 Sweetwater theater shootings, the two Roanoke Tech shootings, the Helgenaktig Shootings here in Ruridova, could have been stopped. I say that if that is the case, let the information on how to make bombs at home be given to everyone, let bad guys with bombs be stopped by good guys with bombs. Solve your terrorism problems- surely the Roxbury Marathon bombing would not have occurred had everyone been carrying pipe bombs. Surely the Unabomber would not have tried his campaign of terror. Allowing everyone to make and buy and carry bombs, whether home-made or military, is just as ridiculous as saying that letting everybody have a gun will help. Letting everyone have a gun will just ensure that every criminal will be armed, that vigilantes will destroy the purpose of law enforcement and justice departments and court systems. Just as many people will needlessly die. And people will continue to die until those buffoons who don't believe in checking to see if you're about to give an Uzi to a paroled felon realize that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.
In Terranova, lack of gun control has repeatedly failed, whereas in Ruridova and Mateporea and Stadacona-Ungave and Ashmoria it has succeeded, by leaps and bounds. The Helgenaktig shooting made international news because nowadays, in Ruridova, mass shootings and gun crimes are a rarity. In Terranova such things make the news after the 24-hour news networks decide which of the day's shootings or murders will best allow them to fill empty space in their cycle. In Ruridova, there have been five mass shootings since 1983. In Mateporea, a gun control bill cut mass shootings while a bill stating that one needed to explain why you needed it(self-defense does not count, as many criminals have used firearms as self-defense against law enforcement officers) cut gun crime down by nearly half? In Ashmoria, the passage of gun control was matched by a steep decline in gun violence and crime, with no corresponding rises in non-gun violence or non-gun crime. In Stadacona-Ungave there was little rise of a black market gun industry, and what little there was was done away with, those responsible thrown in jail. In Terranova murders are almost daily, of men, women, and children, because anyone can buy a gun, and because an armed hero is not always there. It has been proven to work, to allow the good guys guns while preventing bad guys from ever getting them in the first place, covering both bases so to speak. And at the same time we are not restricting the right of good, honest, upstanding, hardworking men and women of their rights to a firearm, much less denying them.
So I end my speech with a cry across the aisle, a cry echoed by fathers and mothers, husbands and wives, brothers and sisters, daughters and sons. How many more?
How many more must die before the failure of lax gun laws is evident?
How many more must live in fear before a system that, while maybe imperfect at times, is far more effective than the old way, is in place?
How many more people must weep over the graves of family and friends, slain by firearms, before it is realized that it is even better to ensure that the good guy does not even have to use his gun because the bad guy has none?
How many more times must the leadership of the Terranovan Firearms Association realize that 92% of Terranovans, 84% of Republicans, and 79% of TFA members support some basic common sense gun control legislation, while only 54% of UST Senators do, thanks to some backroom lobbying? That once it's own president, Bruce duBois, supported background checks, before flip-flopping?
How many more before it is realized that I should not just be able to walk into a superstore and buy a pistol(I bought one just down the street, in fact- of Ruridovan manufacture, oddly enough- and don't worry I've been trained by a dozen professionals and two dozen enthusiasts), no questions asked?
That is my question, my cry, my message. How many more?"

- fmr. Prime Minister Madeleine l'Petain, in mid-2013, while visiting Terranova.

"Prime Minister, everyone expects you to strike a decisive blow and get rid of greedy money grubbers, thugs who harm innocent people, and terrorists who take this nation hostage, rendering it ineffective!"

"But abolishing Parliament would be illegal, right?"

- conversation between a Ruridovan bureaucrat and Prime Minister Alain Spenser
Республіка Рюрідова - Королівство Вілкія
"For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat; I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink; I was a stranger and you invited me in; I needed clothes and you clothed me; I was sick and you looked after me; I was in prison and you came to visit me... Truly, whatever you did for one of the least of my brothers and sisters, you did for me."

Greater Mackonia wrote:"A car carrying a Communist a Capitalist and a Fascist breaks down, the Communist implores for the three to unite and push the car forward, though it may take significant time and misery.
