"You cannot mandate happiness. You cannot decree success. You cannot legislate prosperity."

-- President J. Calvin Holbrook.

"If your country is just full of madmen and violent criminals, maybe you have worse problems than just firearms abuse. We're mostly normal, law-abiding people here."

"Picking up a gun does not magically transform a teenage kid into a lunatic who's going to go down and shoot up the corner grocery. If he does that, I hate to say it, but that was in him long before he ever laid hands on a firearm."

-- Julissa Hickman, Citizen.

"God does not hate money, nor does He hate wealthy people. He dislikes greed, avarice, and those who achieve wealth but then forget who allowed them to become wealthy. All prosperity comes by the grace and good will of the Lord, and those who are so blessed do well to keep that in mind, lest He remind them."

-- Father Nathan Cathcart, Catholic Priest.

"You do not need to be frightened and run away, I am a Soviet citizen like you and I have returned from space; and must find a telephone to tell Moscow of this moment!" - Yuri Gagarin, Cosmonaut and first man in space; to a farmer and his daughter; April 12, 1961

That's not exact but in his memoirs he recalled saying similar.

"The clamoring cries of men and woman was profuse in the air. The engines were brimming with coal and whale oil, ripe for ignition. The chemical tanks were filled with tonic and binding agent, eager for discharge. The convertation machines were properly equipped for the process. In the control room, me and Alexander were poised to deliver the chained men and woman on the delivery line into the harvesters. The workers were scattered throughout the complex, waiting for us to start the machine. Me and Alexander had activated all of the functions. All that remained to start the process was to start the furnaces. I stood at the control panel, my finger on the activation button, ready to start. I was thinking of what I was doing, sending these people to their doom. Alexander stood behind me, urging me to start. I closed my eyes, took a deep breath, exhaled, and pressed the button. Through the glass windows, I saw those people, the poor and sick of Allancia, unknowing of their intimate death. I felt a pang of sadness seeing those people, soon to die for me and Alexander's greed and ambition. I wished with every fiber in my body, every shred of my being, that I could undo my action. Then, the engines started. The energy they produced surged through the machine, shaking it and giving it life. The people began to move down the line, right into the gaping maw of the convertation machine. The first went in, screaming and crying for help. They were being ground, lacerated and beaten with the machine's parts until they were pulp, then their resources harvested for the laboratory. As 600 screaming and yelling people were thrust to their doom, A new emotion dawned on me. A emotion that had only surfaced in me twice before, when I had become the new head spymaster general, and when I learned that Alexander was going to assist me with my endeavors with the machine. That emotion was happiness. I relished it, I relished it for a whole minute. I relished that joy because I knew I would not feel it again for a very long. So long, in fact, I would probably only feel it again when I felt the warm taste of the machine tonic on my tongue."

1. Science is not the "universal solver". It is simply a universal phenomenon.
2. We are attempting to use science to solve world problems. Humans are only so advanced.
3. Just because humans use science does not mean we are hyper intelligent beings. It just means we are kinda intelligent beings.
4. The fact that our bodies are so advanced is because of the effectiveness of science. A complex body does not mean science fails. It means science wins.
5. That post was a joke.
Please don't let this turn into debate about religion.

"When we realize shotguns make the best snipers, we won't need snipers."
-Sergeant Gabe Armson, after testing his M96 shotgun with slug ammunition and a hybrid scope, 2270. Ironically enough, he'd be killed later that year by a UDAP sniper he tried to fight with his modded shotgun. This method has become popular for shotgun-users at mid-range, and the necessary mods are standard issue for M96-wielding troops.

"Don't get us wrong, Mr. Secretary, we understand why you want to launch this Syrian expedition. You have an economy lodged firmly in the shit tubes, a healthcare bill which is a completely and utterly inescapable nightmare, an education system in shambles, a national malaise over Afghanistan, your Congress is less popular than Snooki, and Mr. Obama isn't doing much better, while we happen to be on that subject. A war is the perfect trick to keep people's tired minds on something else. We understand why you want to get involved in Syria so badly. What we do not understand here, Mr. Secretary, is why we should jump into the shark tank with you."

"They can beat their chests and sing praises about the glory of the Soviet Union all they want... I fought on the front lines of the Great Patriotic War. It was not Great, it was not patriotic. It was war, and it was Hell. From Volgograd to Berlin, and every field between them I fought and I killed and I nearly died for 'Sacred Mother Russia'. I saw the evil the 'People's Army' was capable of pervading, I saw the abuses we did to the German people, what I did to the German people. My reward... My reward is fitting. I welcome these bars, the cold walls of this cell deep beneath the soil I fought so hard to defend. Because animals like me deserve to be caged and kept away from the peaceful, normal people of the world." - Pvt. Rodion Markovich's thoughts on the Union, the Great Patriotic War and the aftermath thereof. He was a Doctor before Stalingrad. He died in a gulag in 1962
