There's a reason for why music died in the 1990s. It had been going on since the 60s when entrenched interests lost control to a wave of independent thought.

Anyway, anyone who would hoard wealth for himself and declare that he is better than someone else for it can only do bad for everyone. People get ideas into their heads, nobody tells them otherwise, and they turn into murderers like T. Cullen Davis because they can't understand the simple fact that other people are human beings worth just as much as they are.

Have depression rates truly gone up or are depressions just being reported more?

I'd say it's probably a mix of both. Working hours are through the roof, compensation is down, that plays into it. Poverty rates keep rising and that can't be healthy for anyone.

Nobody is a sheep, we're all human beings. There are a few people who are pretty content to consider themselves superior beings solely because of their greater proficiency for theft.
