Isn't tax kinda like charging for a useful service though?

Let's say that Sam's Club says "Yeah, we'll provide useful services for you, but you have to pay us money for our services, even if you don't really use them or want our services, and if you don't pay for them, we can send men after you and make you pay eventually."

I don't necessarily want a police department. All they do for me is give traffic tickets. Fire departments are useful, but I could live without them. The government isn't responsible for food outside my own garden - that would be trade.

I suppose that I do like the military as well as education, so, of course, I want those services and would be fine with paying taxes, but does everybody truly want them?

Of course, you'd have to be an idiot not to want them, but in the rare case of somebody not wanting them, would it be morally right to take their money and provide the services?

Everybody truly wants some form of service from the government. That's part of having an absolute monopoly on services that are critical to the functioning of society.
