Then, Sam's Club would be a government.
I'd think of it as being more forced to pay for all services, then having to make use of few. But yeah, i see the idea.

Wow. That will be quite the task.
Now I wonder how the dutch ruling class, being quite different (merchants vs nobility) would be perceived in this.
The ruling class in Spain were very mercantile as well, and the motivations behind colonization were largely economic, just like the ones behind centralization of states. It will be fun to spend a few years researching and writing once I've learned how to look at everything in the way I need to.

I don't really dislike the government that much, but I don't really think that a buisness is like a government, and I don't really like that people are forced to support the weak and poor in society.
Of course, it's better than anarchy, so I don't mind the government.

Yet that makes me wonder why Spanish colonies were so vastly different. They had a big continuous empire, while the dutch had more little spots all over the world (including Svalbard, Japan, etc.). Not to mention the spread of religion(or language). Indonesia, our biggest former colony is hardly christian (except for the South Moluccas) and doesn't speak much dutch, while many of the former Spanish colonies are catholic and quite Spanish speaking.

It comes down to timing and the resources available, I'm pretty sure.

Reppy still uses Jolt? The world is at an end.
With that, goodnight. I am starting an 8 day, 12hour shift marathon in the morning so if you all don't see me for awhile, that is why.
