That has not been my experience, if you can talk to thr HIring manager, not HR.

Yeh Sainsburys are twats over employment.

Co-Op on the other hand are much better. I sent out a partially-serious plea for employment to them last year when I was on the dole. The store manager obviously didn't give me anything seeing as I was only going to be around for another couple of weeks but kept it on file and offered me Christmas work.

About half the time I got an answer, and from one of those answers, I changed what I talked about during an interview, and was offered the next job I interviewed for.
